Protect Yourself From Mosquitoes
August is the peak month for West Nile virus. The disease can be transmitted by mosquitoes, and is again present this summer in Lake County. The Lake County Health Department reminds you to follow the "Four D's" to help reduce your risks.

Drain - Once a week, dump or remove containers that hold water.
Cover buckets and rain barrels, and drain unused swimming pools.
Dress - Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants.
Dawn and Dusk - Stay indoors during the early evening and morning.
Defend - Use insect repellents. Always read label directions. The most effective
repellents contain DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Reapplication may be necessary.

What About Zika virus?
The mosquitoes that transmit Zika have not been found in Lake County.
However, residents traveling to areas where Zika is present should take
precautions.

County Clerk Urging Vote By Mail

The County Clerk is already encouraging folks to vote by mail to help control crowds at polling places in the November election.  If you sign up to receive a ballot by mail, the ballots will begin being mailed on September 29. Early voting in your area will begin on October 24.

Am I registered to vote? How do I r equest a ballot by mail? What is on my ballot? Where do I vote?  Click here and enter your information.

Snowbird Program
Registered voters who seasonally vacation outside their precinct can automatically receive a printed request for ballot by mail. Join the program using our online  Fillable Enrollment Form (PDF)  which can be printed, signed and mailed to us.

Student Program
Available to students away at school, this program simplifies voting for students who are  registered to vote  and request the ballot at their school address. Enrollment is valid for two years and each summer our office confirms the student address at school for the coming year. Complete the  Enrollment Form (PDF)  which can be printed, signed and mailed to our office.

Permanent Voting by Mail Program
This program is intended to simplify voting for voters who wish to receive an application for ballot to the address indicated and for the elections specified. Use the  Fillable Enrollment Form (PDF)  which can be printed, signed and mailed to our office. Enrolling helps our office gauge the number of voters who choose to vote by mail and, therefore, reduce increased printing costs from the three voting methods.  This is not a one-time request form, but a program enrollment.  You must be a registered voter in Lake County, Illinois to participate. Enrollment in the program remains in effect until you provide notification to cancel or your voter registration becomes inactive.
