April 27, 2018
 Dear Pastor/Friends,

It was a tremendous blessing for Susan and me to be with you at the recent district assembly.  We want to thank you for your kindness and grace.  We love our district family and are very, very, grateful for the privilege of serving the Lord with you.

Above, please see the picture of our wonderful ordination class of 2018. Pictured from left to right are Josh Cisneros (Melissa), Eric DeLuna (Teresa), Amanda Pettit (Steve), Brian Martin (Katrina), Harvey Baskett (Kahty), Alvin Newton (Melissa), Andrew Taylor (Emily), Ramiro Ortiz (Tina) and Alfredo Alvarez (Candelaria).  In an article below you will see the election results. We thank the Lord, again, for what was, in my heart, a wonderful and blessed assembly. I am very grateful to Pastor Glidden and our host church staff from Ft. Worth First! They were all awesome in every way. And, of course, thank you to all of our district staff and SDMI/NMI leadership for the hundreds of preparatory hours that were invested in this annual event!

Congratulations to Pastor Lynn Nichols of Ft. Worth Northside who received an outstanding two-year pastoral review from his leadership team this past Sunday. It's hard to believe that Lynn and Penny have only been on the district for two years.  They have become vital and highly valued members of our district family!

It was a wonderful blessing to be in Bowie on Easter Sunday for the installation of their new Pastor, Richard Humphrey. Richard and Misty recently moved from Florida, where he was the senior pastor of Trenton Community Church of the Nazarene. They have also served churches in Ohio and Kansas.

Also on Easter, as was reported at the district assembly, Premal and Kavita Awasarmal and the new "Naya Jeevan" ("New Life") congregation had their first official public worship service at Doug Russell Park in Arlington.  They have been meeting in Premal and Kavita's home and are praying for the perfect meeting place near UTA.

Family Camp is just around the corner. Please study the promotional information below.  Pastors, please note the special pastoral evangelism forum with Dr. Shaver, each morning following the primary teaching time. I hope many of our pastors and leaders will take advantage of this outstanding training opportunity.

Please see ads below for each of the district camps. I am so grateful for the wonderful camping ministry we have on the WT District!

PALCON this June will be extra powerful. Leading organic-church evangelism trainer, Kevin Hearney, will be featured. The districts are underwriting the cost of hosting Dr. Hearney on our region so that all of our pastors can be exposed to his outstanding teaching. I think that personal participation in one of his training events can cost up to $600. However, the full training will be included in registration cost of PALCON. Scholarships are available. Please contact me if finances are a hindrance. You can, and should, register soon. You can reach the PALCON link by CLICKING HERE.

Our prayers are with you for a wonderful summer!

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs

Looking Back: If you missed the West Texas Vision Conference, you missed a great time of encouragement and inspiration! We celebrated being a District of Excellence with 102.8% payment of WEF. A record number of our churches, 72, paid the World Evangelism Fund in full! It has been wonderful the way our churches have responded to world need with, "Let us rise up and build."

Looking Ahead: While Cheryl's love for NMI and West Texas is 100% intact, God has made it clear to her that this is a good time to step aside.

Cheryl is excited to "introduce" you to our new WT NMI President, Mrs. Amanda Pettit. Amanda has served as a Nazarene missionary in El Salvador, Haiti, and Dominica. She & her husband Steve have also pastored on our district - previously at Pampa, and now as co-directors of Mission 820 which is the compassionate outreach arm of Crossroads Tabernacle. Amanda was ordained at this year's District Assembly. Amanda is founder and president of Unforgotten Project which works with several Nazarene schools in Haiti. Bonus: she's an interior designer, so gorgeous backdrops and visuals are in our future. Best of all, Amanda is vibrant and passionate and ON FIRE for Jesus. Her email is: [email protected]

Our new NMI Vice President is Mrs. Serina Nelson. Serina is co-pastor (with her husband) of Amarillo North Beacon. She was ordained at last year's District Assembly. Serina has extensive experience with short-term missions and feels God has called her to serve through NMI. She LOVES supporting missionaries! In fact, when the Nelsons accepted the pastorate of North Beacon, the church hadn't paid any budgets for years. The Nelsons announced that they would support the global work of the church, and that commitment turned the church around. It's now vibrant and growing! Serina is a forensic scientist and is the first civilian to be hired by the Amarillo Police Department for its Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) squad. She is energetic and lively and encouraging! Her email is: [email protected]

Also ahead: Ashley and Tracey Hord, missionaries to Africa, will be touring our churches May 14 to June 3, 2018! Check the schedule online at this link: 2018-19 Missionary Deputation Schedule If you have questions, contact Deputation Coordinator Amy Spiglemyer at [email protected] .

Good afternoon West Texas!

It was so great to see so many of you at our VISION Conference and District Assembly. I hope you had a great week. Here if some of the information I passed out at our breakout sessions. If you are not the children's leader at your church please forward this email on to that person.

Friendly reminder:
April 30 is the ACTIVATE scholarship deadline date - ALL applications must be received by then to be considered for one of our 20 scholarships this year.  If the need is larger we will contact other local churches to see if we can raise extra funds.  But please talk with your local congregations and try to help your local kids as well!  Remember you need to request a scholarship application from me ( [email protected]) and then complete and return to me no later than April 30.  ALL scholarship recipients MUST be registered online no later than May 15 or their scholarship may be awarded to another camper.

Please begin praying for ACTIVATE July 16-20!  We are preparing and I'm excited to let you know that we will have a team of West Texas children's pastors speaking for us this year!  Becky Adams from Big Spring, Josh Fredlund from Amarillo First and Bridget Benn from Arlington First will be sharing from our theme verse:

1 Corinthians 9:25   "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.  They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."  So begin preparing now for ACTIVATE 2018 at Arrowhead Camp....Let the Games Begin!!
