March 9, 2016

Dear Pastor/Friends,

We rejoice with the congregation of Borger Trinity at the coming of their new Pastor, Rev. Lowell Clark,
and his wife, Marilyn. The Clarks are coming to Borger from their most recent assignment in Davenport, Oklahoma. Prior to that they served as Nazarene missionaries in central and east Africa for 22 years. Before moving to Africa, back in the '70s they served in our Dalhart Church. They are a wonderful couple, and we are delighted to have them back in West Texas!

Susan and I had the privilege, again this past weekend, of participating in the WT District Kidz Fest at Lubbock First Church. What a great event! I can't thank our district children's ministry director, Jennifer Sommers, and her outstanding crew enough for the great job they always do with this annual event. I am so grateful for each and every adult sponsor who spent the weekend in Lubbock with their kids. It was especially gratifying to see the altars lined with kids praying after Pastor Tracy Ricenbaw preached on Thursday evening!

Welcome to our newest congregation (CTM), Nuevo Pacto (New Covenant) Iglesia del Nazareno in
Muleshoe! It has been many years since we have had an active congregation in this WT town, which is located 60 miles west of Lubbock near the New Mexico border. Yet, over the past ten years, God has raised up an independent holiness congregation that is very excited about joining our "tribe." They have faithfully rented the property the district still owns in Muleshoe...and they've taken great care of it for us.

We've come to admire and appreciate Pastor and Mrs. Rafael Cordero and their congregation
as we've gotten to know them this past year. Last Sunday, Susan, Kai, and I had the privilege of worshipping and fellowshipping with them. We love them already. The good news...no more rent payments. The better news, they have the privilege of sharing in the Global missional agenda of a great denomination! Welcome!

We are only five weeks away from the district assembly. Please join me in prayer for a time of encouragement and inspiration for our district family. Pastors, please do everything you can to give as much as possible in support of the World Evangelism fund. Several of our churches are promoting the Easter offering for World Evangelism as a way to pay in full, or even overpay, their 2015-16 WEF allocation. I can't tell you how much our missionaries (and our Lord) appreciate this.

For you and with you,

David Downs

Attention Pastors and NMI Presidents!

Action Requested by March 13, 2016 -- NMI Year-End Reporting & Vision Conference April 13-15, 2016

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the West Texas Vision Conference and Assembly on April 13-15, 2016 at Fort Worth First Church of the Nazarene located at 2001 E. Main Street in Crowley, TX. Please print a copy of this message to retain the important details regarding the Vision Conference. The Conference is open to all NMI Presidents, Pastors, elected NMI Delegates, Sunday School Superintendents, local NMI Council members, NMI treasurers, church treasurers as well as representatives from NYI, Children's Ministries, Sunday School Discipleship Ministries and other lay leaders.

Guest Missionary Speakers will be Barry and Charlie Carney. The Carneys have served as global missionaries for 7 years, serving the Church of the Nazarene in El Paso as Work and Witness Coordinators for USA/Canada with an emphasis on the border of Mexico and as the Work and Witness Coordinators in Argentina from 2001 until 2006. They most recently served at First Church of the Nazarene in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They are very excited that the Lord has called them back to the foreign mission field in Paraguay and Bolivia where they work with church development, Work and Witness, and the JESUS Film.

Housing: attached is information on housing that was recently distributed by the District Office.

NMI Year-End Reporting: NMI Presidents are asked to please go to the link below by March 13, 2016 to enter your year-end NMI statistics after your World Evangelism Fund and other Missions offerings have all been paid and when your new 2016 Church Membership/NMI Membership number has been determined: click here.

Please include NMI Members, NMI Associate Members, Mission Priority One participation (Praying, Discipling, Giving, and Educating), World Evangelism Church of Excellence, Alabaster, World Mission Broadcast, Missionary Care, testimony of your congregation's participation in missions activities, NMI President elected for the new year, names of Elected Delegates and Alternates for District NMI Convention, and District 100% Church achievement. If you need help entering your numbers into the system, please feel free to request assistance from your NMI Zone Director.

Funding The Mission (FTM): If your treasurer is not posting year-to-date income on the FTM website, your church will not have an accurate perspective of the percentage paid to-date for World Evangelism Fund (WEF) until your pastor submits his/her Annual Pastor's Report (APR). Full participation in Mission Priority One requires that the church give 5.5% of adjusted church income to the WEF as verified by the APR. All WEF payments must have been marked for the ending church year -- not the new church year. Pastors can contact Dan Davisson at [email protected] or call the District Office at 817-479-8611 to register your treasurer to begin using the helpful tools on the FTM website.

The total NMI Membership reported at our 2016 Conference will determine the number of NMI delegates we are allowed to send to the 2017 NMI Global Convention in Indianapolis. Local churches may consider every church member an NMI member. All attendees of local churches who are not church members may become associate members of NMI. The NMI President and Pastor should collaborate on the total NMI membership number for the President's and Pastor's year-end report. The Pastor's written Assembly report provides the official membership statistics for the local NMI. It is imperative that the NMI President's Report NMI Membership number agrees with the Pastor's. It is imperative that we saturate the entire church with the message of NMI and not limit it to one small group that meets periodically.

Love Offering for District NMI President: We are very blessed to have Mrs. Cheryl Crouch as our District NMI President. She is passionate about Missions and works to promote NMI all year long. Cheryl receives no salary for her many hours of hard work. Let's show our appreciation to Cheryl by mailing a generous love offering check made out to " WTD NMI" to our District NMI Treasurer:

Rev. Zack Smithson
500 Live Oak Dr.
Euless, TX 76040

Registration & Workshops: NMI Presidents, Pastors, and elected NMI Delegates should visit the Registration Desk between 1:15 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and pick up the list of workshops, Delegate's packet for voting, Pastor's packet, and President's packet. Nazarene Publishing House brochures and order forms will be available in the President's packet. You are in for a very exciting and pleasant surprise when you see the new NMI reading books! In addition, we already have some excellent workshop presenters lined up who will share information on a variety of exciting and relevant topics.

If any elected alternates need to be seated in place of elected delegates who cannot attend, the Pastor or NMI President should submit that substitution in writing at the registration desk first thing on Wednesday afternoon. Forms for substituting delegates will be available at the registration desk.

VOTING MEMBERS OF THE NMI CONVENTION INCLUDE:

Ex Officio Members: District NMI Council, District Superintendent, all assigned ministers and  full-time salaried associate ministers of local churches; lay members of the District Advisory Board; the local NMI Presidents of the assembly year just ending, and newly elected NMI Presidents or newly elected Vice Presidents if the newly elected President cannot attend; Global NMI Council member; retired assigned ministers; retired missionaries; missionaries on home assignment, and missionary appointees; and any former District Presidents who reside on the district that they served.

Elected Delegates: shall be NMI Members (15 years of age or older) of each local church or elected alternates substituted by the Pastor at Convention.

Kickoff: The conference will begin sharply at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The afternoon business session will include voting, our District NMI President's annual year-end report, mission education, and opening message from Ray Neu, Oral Language Coordinator for the Church of the Nazarene.

Childcare will be available at Fort Worth First Church for birth through 6th grade during the day, and birth through 5 years of age during evening services. Parents should contact Jennifer Sommers in advance at [email protected] to let her know the kids' ages. Parents need to pick up their children for meal times. Childcare will be available during the Wednesday evening banquet, but parents must bring a sack dinner for their children. Please share the attached flyer with all parents who will be bringing children to the conference.

Opportunities for Hands-on Missions Activities:

-- Our district has 2 teams going to Encuentro in Puerto Rico this summer. They would like to take baseball gloves to the children there. If you have used baseball gloves you would like to donate, please bring them to the conference.
-- Please consider bringing Crisis Care Kits (CCKs), as Rev. Dick Sowder will return to Fort Worth to pick them up and transport them for us.

-- Please also bring $5 per banana box of CCKs for storage. Please make the check out to "West Texas District NMI" and mark it for " CCK Storage" and place it in the offering plate. (You still need to send $12 per box to the General Treasurer.)
-- Please consider bringing a $10 gift card to Subway, Panera, Panda Express, Hardees or Chick-Fil-a. Our West Texas delegates to the 2017 General NMI Convention will use these gift cards to take international delegates to dinner and get to know them!

-- Don't forget to also bring your church's Buddy Offering (made out to WTD NMI) which will help international delegates attend the 2017 General NMI Convention.

SDMI / NMI Celebration Banquet: Our Wednesday evening banquet will cost $15 per ticket and will begin at 5:15 p.m. The banquet is open to the first 320 people who register and pay online
. Advance reservations and payment are required to insure we have enough seating and food. Remember to include any members of the District Advisory Board, pastoral staff, delegates, SDMI/Children's/NYI representatives, spouses and all other conference attendees from your church. Tickets purchased online will available by church at a ticket counter near the Registration Desk. Please watch the District NMI Website for the link to order banquet tickets: http://www.wtd-nmi.org/.

Wednesday evening service: This service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with our missionary speakers. This is always a special time of inspiration for our conference attendees. Mentoring and discipling is an important part of NMI. Churches are strongly encouraged to have their families in this evening service, especially teens and children.

On behalf of our District NMI President, elected NMI Officers, and entire District NMI Council, we look forward to seeing you at Fort Worth First Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Wanted: Used Baseball Gloves for
Encuentro 2016-Puerto Rico

West Texas has two teams going to Puerto Rico this summer, and we would like to take some baseball gloves to the children there.  If you have any laying around, please bring them to District Assembly. Thank you!

Dumas Church of the Nazarene has a Hammond organ that they no longer use. If there is a church on the district who could use it, they would be happy to donate it.

The last time it was used (several years ago), it worked. It has to hook up to the sound system in order to be used.

Please contact Pastor Steve Swanson at [email protected] if you are interested.

In the summer of 2015, CNMC held their first English as a Second Language (ESL) term with two classes and just under 20 students. In the Fall, we had six different classes, with around 50 students. Now, in our Winter Term, we have almost 140 students taking English classes, two days a week, spread out into 9 different classes. From these classes, not only have we helped people learn the English language, we've opened doors to helping with other needs.

It is common to overhear conversations about church and community in the hallways. Little by little, students are being connected into the Nazarene congregations here in Cactus. Thank you all who have been helping us by volunteering, praying for us, and donating time and money to help make this program happen. We couldn't do it without you all, and we can't wait to see what the Lord has in store in the future!

If you'd like to support this exciting ESL ministry, please e-mail us at [email protected] for more information.

Dear West Texas NYI Family (students, youth workers, pastors, etc.),

Please take the time to read all the information below.  There are exciting things happening in WTNYI.

In 2016 West Texas NYI is trying something new! Youth A Rama will be joining the region at Southern Nazarene University to make Extravaganza 2016 a truly exceptional event.

The West Texas NYI council spent much time in prayer and discussion before making this decision.  We understand the tradition of Youth A Rama and the impact that is has made on the lives of so many students.  Extravaganza at SNU is a meaningful regional event that has impacted the lives of many students over the years as well.  That being said, the NYI Council is excited to join forces with Extravaganza.  We pray that it will be received as a new opportunity and tradition, taking Youth A Rama to the next level; Introducing our students to the region, and our university, while still maintaining unity as a district.  We want to see more students attending our fine university and one way to do that is to get more of our West Texas Students on the campus.  The region has moved Extravaganza to March 31 - April 3 in 2016.  If you are not familiar with Extravaganza at SNU, it is almost identical to Youth A Rama but on a larger scale.  It offers more options for students to display their talents and has separate divisions for junior high and high school.  The regional council has made recent changes putting more emphasis on the worship services at Extravaganza.  It already is a great event. Add in a little West Texas flair and it becomes an exceptional event. :) The WTNYI Council is excited to get on board with this event and bring our West Texas students to SNU. We pray you too will be excited about the potential.  Most importantly we want our students to encounter God! Join us in praying that God will prepare all our hearts for what He wants to do at all our local, district, and regional events!

Also in 2016, ENCUENTRO 2016.  July 10-16, 2016.  West Texas NYI is taking a team of students, sponsors, families, etc. to Encuentro 2016 in Puerto Rico. This is an NYI- sponsored mission trip with over 2500 students anticipated to participate during July 2016.  We will work along side our Puerto Rican Nazarenes conducting youth, adult and family evangelistic missions.  Prayerfully consider how you can get your students involved in this incredible mission opportunity.  Go online to  www.wtnyi.com for more information and to get your students registered.
