May 5, 2016
Dear Pastor/Friends,

I am still praising the Lord for His many blessings at the recent district assembly. My prayer was that God would provide encouragement and inspiration to our pastors and people... and surely He did this. Pastors, thank you for your support of, and participation in, the assembly.

Again this year almost every pastor was present and accounted for. God blessed us with great crowds and wonderful services. It was a great joy to work with Dr. Busic! Drs. Sunberg and Nees did a fantastic job as well.

Below you will find the names of those serving on our district boards and committees following the elections. Special thanks to our district secretary and elections coordinator, Pastor Earl Robertson for the outstanding job he did of organizing everything!

Welcome to our new office manager, Mrs. Ana Carrier, who assumed her new  responsibilities on May 2nd, replacing interim office manager, Kimberly Downs. I am so appreciative of my daughter Kimberly and her willingness to step in and help us through the transition, especially in preparation for the district assembly. Now we are delighted to welcome Ana.  Ana, who is completely fluent in English and Spanish, was raised in a Nazarene pastor's home and is a dedicated church woman. She is active as a worship leader at Jesucristo Vive Church of the Nazarene in Arlington. We are very excited to have her as part of our district team.

Our next big event on the district is Family Camp, followed by Teen Camp (CRAVE) and Kidz Camp. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the Family Camp brochure below.

For you and with you,

Pastor David Downs

Dear NMI Leader,

It is an exciting time as we begin a new church year! It is also a time of transition. Because it will take a while to update email addresses received at the conference and in reports, please be patient and please help us!

Changes - If you are no longer an NMI President or West Texas Pastor,  you can help us in two ways.
1) If you are able, forward this important email to the person who is now in charge of NMI.
2) Email us back and ask to be removed from the NMI mailing list, sharing the information of whoever is now in charge of NMI if you have it. Thank you for your help!

Vision Conference  - It was great to be together at the West Texas Vision Conference and Assembly and celebrate how God is moving around the world and in our district. What a GREAT time to be part of the Church!

We want to say thanks again to  Fort Worth First for hosting us so beautifully! What a blessing their great people were to us. I also need to express thanks to the NMI District Council who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create such a smooth, well-run conference.

Thanks for all of you for your enthusiasm, encouragement, and generosity. We received $2,632.11 for the Buddy Offering, which will help bring International Delegates to the General NMI Convention in 2017. We also received $3,401.68 for our missionary speakers, Barry and Charlie Carney of Paraguay, and collected 70 boxes of Crisis Care Kits (360 kits).

Remember May  = Missionary Care. You can help take care of our missionaries by presenting a Memorial Roll for $50, a Distinguished Service Award for $100, taking a Healthcare Offering, or giving a "Gifts from the Heart" card and donating to Missionary Care.

May = Mail Teen Mission Offering  to District NMI Treasurer.

Looking ahead to June, deputation tours are approaching! Please give these missionaries a warm West Texas welcome!
  • June 20-July 8 Ronald and Shelly Miller (South Africa) on Deputation
  • June 18 - July 21 Scot and Jill Riggins (Philippines) on Deputation
Thanks for the excellent work you do as you lead your congregation to pray, disciple, educate and give.

Let's continue to celebrate the harvest!

Blessings,

Cheryl Crouch, WT NMI President

What a great convention and assembly we had. Dr Nees, Dr. Sunberg, Ray Neu, and Barry and Charlie Carney were all truly anointed as they shared about their ministries. We need your partnership!

As you know, Cactus Nazarene Ministry Center (CNMC) is a Christ-centered community center, located in Cactus, TX, offering the message of hope in Christ through services that empower people to live successful lives and to reach their full potential. Your partnership makes this possible!

CNMC is fully supported by individual and church contributions. God continues to provide in miraculous ways, but we need your financial partnership to continue refugee and immigrant ministry in Cactus. At this time, giving is at a low, so we need your help! We invite you and your congregation to consider supporting CNMC by committing to give a one-time gift or a monthly contribution. Please feel free to share this in your bulletin and weekly communication with members of your congregation.

Give by check, give online, or download the automatic debit form by clicking here!
We also invite you to visit the CNMC webpage and sign up for our new monthly newsletter.

Soccer: Building Bridges of Unity
Living in a community like Cactus, where the majority of the town is made up of people from countries in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia, it can be difficult sometimes to find activities or interests that unite the community. However, after just spending a few months here it became increasingly evident that one of the commonalities between the people groups here was soccer! That realization occurred almost a year ago, and this month we began our second season of soccer here in Cactus.

Spring soccer competes with many other sports such as volleyball, baseball, softball and football and yet we still over 100 kids sign up to play! The program has continued to grow and it continues to be a source of excitement through town. I can't step outside most days without a child or parent coming over to me and asking about soccer or, even better, telling me about the exciting and encouraging moments shared. The excitement from the children is contagious and exciting, but perhaps the most encouraging aspect about this ministry is the community involvement seen through referees, coaches, and spectators alike. This week, I had a conversation with one of our coaches who was checking in about some things. When I told her that I really appreciated how hard she was working and how dedicated she was, she told me that she looks forward to soccer each week just like the kids do! This was a parent that I had to nudge a little to get to agree to coach, she was afraid she didn't know enough about soccer, and what if there were language barriers? She went on to tell me how much she loves getting to know the kids that come from different racial backgrounds from her own, and that it has really come to care for her team like they are her own kids.

If I am being honest, when I embarked on starting a soccer program last year I had no idea what kind of impact it would make on the community, other than bringing joy to kids (which is impact enough!) but after having two seasons in the books, I can truly say that this ministry has become an opportunity to build bridges of unity in our diverse corner of the world. It is humbling and beautiful picture of the Kingdom of God.
