Dear Pastor/Friends,

I'm writing my newsletter article from Amarillo this week, where I am meeting with pastors and pastoral prospects and conducting pastoral reviews. I want to congratulate Pastor Ted Taylor of Hereford and Pastor Larry Dunlap of Amarillo Valleyview, each having had great 4-year reviews!  I am certainly honored to be affiliated with each of these good pastors!

This past Sunday we had the privilege of being in Mansfield for a tremendous unity celebration with our Mansfield First and Arlington Renewed Life congregations. This was the culmination of some very exciting (and I believe pleasing to God) prayer and discussion in recent weeks between Mansfield First's pastor, Mike Murphy and Renewed Life's pastor, Greg Key.

Together with their leadership teams and congregations, they have covenanted to house both congregations in the Mansfield building.   These are two very different congregations, one very traditional and the other quite progressive and contemporary...but they love the same Lord and they love each other, sharing the same holiness message and mission. I am so pleased with their collaborative efforts! I predict that great days are ahead for each of these precious congregations!

Last Friday and Saturday we conducted Discovery Weekend in Abilene. This is the annual event designed to edify and encourage our newly district-licensed ministers and their spouses.  I am particularly grateful to our assistant DS, Earl Robertson, who coordinated this great event... and to Dr. Linda Cantwell, of SNU, who was our resource person, and led the participants through the Strength Finders assessment.

There are so many wonderful things happening in our churches. I am so very grateful to the Lord for being allowed to serve Him alongside you!

Please remember that Susan and I are here for you!

Gratefully,

Pastor David Downs

IDOP - The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is November 6. The Open Doors Web site offers a free resources to help you be informed, inspired and united in prayer for our brothers and sisters living under the heavy burden of persecution. You can find them   HERE .

Thank Offering  - A Letter from our General Superintendents:

When you look around, you can't help but notice it: God has blessed us in so many ways. The psalmist calls on us to "sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy" (Psalm 107:22). When we give back, we recognize God as the giver of all good things. We remember now so that we never forget: it's All From Him.

"All From Him" is the theme for the 2016 Thanksgiving, or Thank, Offering. Together, we join in prayer and preparation for this annual emphasis in the Church of the Nazarene. As our gifts come together through the World Evangelism Fund, we make Christlike disciples in the nations. We remember God's generosity toward us and respond by giving back and spreading the gospel around the world.

Prepare your church for this offering emphasis by reflecting together on your blessings, praying for ministry around the world, and remembering that God is the great giver.

The offering will be received November 20, 2016. Resources including sermon outlines, bulletin inserts, & social media promos are available at nazarene.org/generosity in English, Spanish, & Korean. If you have questions, contact Stewardship Ministries at 1-800-544-8413 or [email protected] .

Yours in Christ,

The Board of General Superintendents

Greetings! We are very excited that you are interested in learning more about One Heart - Many Hands, Indy 2017. OHMH is anticipating at least 2,000 volunteers who will make their way to Indianapolis to be a part of this incredible community service project.  Plans for the project are developing rapidly and we are thrilled to share with you what we are planning...

This project is going to be different from other General Assembly projects that we've done in the past.  In 2017, we will be concentrating all our efforts in the east side of Indianapolis... more specifically in the 46201 zip code. Over the course of 5 days, our teams will be making themselves available to repair homes in low-income neighborhoods, clean parks, and paint community and senior centers.

Traditionally, OHMH has been a week-long project and it is true that our General Assembly project is slated for June 18-23, 2017.  However, OHMH is partnering with Shepherd Community Center and the South East Neighborhood Development for a five-year program!  This summer would be the perfect opportunity for you and your group to form a partnership with us in Indy and then to continue serving with us as for one, two, or even five years.

I know that's a lot of information so let me boil it down for you with the specifics...

Date:                    June 18-23, 2017

Where:                Indianapolis, Indiana

Registration:     $195.00 PAID IN FULL before January 31, 2017 and then
$225.00...
Registration closes May 01, 2017
                                             Included in Registration:
* Box lunch
* Insurance
* Program expenses
* Event T-shirt
* Special Events (All additional costs including meals except for lunches listed above, lodging, and transportation are the responsibility of the individual or teams)

Lodging:           OHMH is once again working with University of Indianapolis and for budgeting purposes you can use the following amounts This housing is optional... Each participant is responsible for their housing...

5 Night Option (June 18-23) with no meals = $125.00 per person double occupancy.  If you want to include meals add $75.00 (5 breakfasts and 4 dinners)
7 Night Option (June 18-25) with no meals = $175.00 per person double occupancy.  If you want to include meals add $110.00 (7 breakfasts and 6 dinners)

Now, what are you waiting for?  You and your team will have the opportunity to be a part of a project that will not only transform your lives but change a community as well.  Start today by contacting us at [email protected] to request your registration packet.  We are here to serve you!

"We are not just going to leave the Indy-area better than we found it; we are going to leave the people of the community with a witness to goodness and kindness on a scale larger than they have ever seen. They will come to better understand the true meaning of selfless compassion. What we do now will not only have a positive impact today, but will plant seeds of change that will continue growing for generations."

Hello from your friends down on the Brazos River! The past few months God has surely blessed us with some incredible partnerships and moments of ministry here at Camp Arrowhead. We are so thankful for all of the churches and individuals who have taken time out of their busy schedules to come and retreat. We pray that the work that was begun here continues in these precious lives.

As the seasons are changing, so are a few things here at camp. We are excited to announce an update to our name and logo! Camp Arrowhead will now be Arrowhead Camp & Retreat Center. We believe that this new name will reach a broader audience and will really showcase that we offer more than just summer camps. The logo is simple and immediately identifies us as a Christian organization. We will be rolling out these changes over the coming months and are excited for this next season of ministry at Arrowhead!

We know that God has blessed these grounds for His purpose and invite all of you to join in prayer for the ministry that takes place here. Please pray for these things specifically:
  • Staff - pray that we would remain healthy and responsive to how the Lord is leading us.
  • Ministry Partners - pray that there would be open doors for new partnerships with churches and organizations in the DFW area.
  • Grounds - pray that as we enter into the winter season our property would be protected from damage and that we would be able to cross some things off of the ever-growing project list.
If you or your church would like to host a retreat or camp here - or even just come for a visit - please feel free to contact us! You can call (254) 897-2323 or email [email protected] .

Blessings from the Brazos,

Josh & Terra Edwards
