VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Paul Khacherian is our August Volunteer of the Month!!!
As a lifelong soccer player and outdoor enthusiast, running, hiking and fitness were engrained in Paul- although he is quick to admit that running for soccer always seemed different than “going for a run.”

Around four years ago Paul decided it was time to hang up the soccer boots - age, injury, a combination of both. He was realistic that his soccer days were behind him, but knew he needed something to keep him active and (relatively) fit. Enter the mindset of going for a run.

Soon one mile turned to two, then five and seven and so on. He was introduced to Western Reserve Racing when he signed up to run on an 8-person relay at the Burning RIver 100 (BR100) in 2015. Since that time, Paul has immersed himself in the local trail running community through volunteering at countless events with Western Reserve Racing including captaining an aid station at the past 3 BR100’s and at the 2016 Fools with his former organization, America SCORES Cleveland. He has also completed six half marathons, several 25k’s, one full marathon, and in 2016 the Buckeye Trail 50k. “Trail running is ideal,” he says. “I think this is the only sport where it is acceptable (and for those who run with me know it is expected) to stop what you’re doing because you see a coyote, or an owl, or a salamander crossing the trail!”

Paul lives in Hudson with his wife Katie (who is also a runner, yoga instructor and fellow WRR volunteer), and can be found running the trails in CVNP several days a week. His long-term running goals (dreams, really) are to complete 3 trails around the US: The Wonderland Trail (Mt. Rainier) in Washington, the Mountains-to-Sea Trail in North Carolina, and the Buckeye Trail (yes, that Buckeye Trail – in Ohio!)

Thanks Paul for all of the volunteering!!!
