Classes, Groups and Activities

Disaster Relief
We have all been watching the news, horrified by the devastation Southeastern Texas, Western Louisiana and now the impending damage from Hurricane Irma. The news services mention churches responding to the devastation by forming help crews and opening their churches as shelters. Many of the churches named are Presbyterian. Additionally, a number of those news services talked about Presbyterian Disaster Assistance being on the ground and making a meaningful difference.
At the moment, we cannot make a difference by driving down because the roads are underwater. How you can make a positive change is by giving to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Please prayerfully consider making a donation. You can do so by sending us a check to 4114 Allison Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310 or you can do it online, by going to the Westminster website. Either way, when making your donation, please be sure to put "Presbyterian Disaster Assistance" or "PDA" in the memo, so Ruth, our accountant, knows how to designate your gift.

Salvation - Heaven and Hell
This study is part of the "Faith Questions" series offered by the PCUSA. It is intended to help us explore  the questions: "What Happens When You Die?" "What Is Heaven Like?" "What Is Hell Like?" and "How Can I Get Into Heaven and Stay Out of Hell?" Faith Questions studies are based on faith questions posed by youth. Each session encourages us to look to Scripture, and our faith tradition, in relevant and responsive ways.

Come to every session or drop in when you can. We offer lively, thoughtful, discussion and a chance to ask your own questions. Classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Westminster Hall starting this Sunday, September 10 and will be hosted by Jack Ratekin.

The Beatitudes:
Worship & Art to Focusing on God's Blessings

On Sunday, August 27, Westminster Church began a fall worship series focusing on the Scripture passage known as the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12). Pastor Scott is preaching several sermons on the Beatitudes, and the choir is preparing music to support this theme.

To enhance our worship experience, the Visual Arts Committee has coordinated a Beatitudes art exhibit entitled "Blessed Are They," which features works by several Westminster artists. Each artist was invited to create a piece of art based on a particular verse, or on the Beatitudes passage as a whole. The works are diverse, using a variety of styles and media - acrylic paint, photography, fabric art, mixed media - yet all portray God's blessings as described in this passage.

The Visual Arts Committee would like to thank all the artists who participated in this project. The exhibit will be on display in the Sanctuary through September 24.

Visitor's Guides in Pews

Now available in the pews is our "Visitor's Guide to Worship."  As a visitor we know there are many aspects of worship that we do routinely which seem foreign to visitors. This guide is to help know the "unwritten words" of worship.  There is a glossary of terms towards the back to help, as well.

We encourage all members to take a look at the guide.  There are many intricacies to our worship so perhaps everyone will learn something new!
