These free to the public installations will include work from Santiago Calatrava, Tony Cragg, Alison Saar, Joel Shapiro and Jessica Stockholder, as well as three Milwaukee-based artists - Michelle Grabner, Paul Druecke and Jason S. Yi.

Milwaukee's utility boxes are about to receive a big upgrade. Visual artist Mauricio Ramirez will be turning the utility boxes into 3-dimensional murals. He will begin painting mid-May and is expected to be finished in late June. In total, he will be painting 10 utility boxes along Wisconsin Ave, from Cass to 9th Street.

Join us this Friday, May 19th from 11AM - 1PM for a Pop-Up Party with DJ Shawna near the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Plankinton (near Mo's Irish Pub) to see Ramirez begin updating one of the utility boxes.
Milwaukee Police Department News
Westown would like to welcome Captain Diana Rowe, who became the new First District commander in February after the retirement of Captain Eric Moore.  We would also like to wish long-time District 1 Community Liaison Officer Jose Alba well on his May retirement from MPD after 26 years of service. Tom Kline will continue to serve as CLO for the downtown area and can be contacted at tkline@milwaukee.gov.
Streetcar Construction Updates
The Milwaukee streetcar construction project is in full swing throughout downtown Milwaukee. To mitigate the construction impacts and answer questions, the City of Milwaukee will communicate regularly with those who have homes, businesses, jobs and property along the route.  These project updates, delivered via email, will be used throughout construction and system testing to:
  • Provide construction timelines and updates
  • Inform businesses and residents about community meetings
  • Communicate City "Support for Business" programs and activities
  • Solicit input and questions from stakeholders on the route
To be included on The Milwaukee Streetcar Construction News email updates, please complete the form on project website

Summerfest 50 Exhibit Opens at the Milwaukee County Historical Society
In honor of Summerfest's 50th edition, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. and the Milwaukee County Historical Society are partnering to present a series of historic exhibits that illustrate decades of festival highlights. This exhibit digs deep into Summerfest's history, from its founding fathers to the world-class musicians that make it the festival it is today.  The Summerfest 50th exhibit opens on Thursday, May 18th.

Bus Rapid Transit
The planning for Milwaukee County's Bus Rapid Transit continues to move forward. This modern transit service will stretch 9-miles and connect major employment, education, and recreation destinations between downtown Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center. As Milwaukee County continues to move forward with the design and planning of the BRT project, which includes lane configuration and station location and design, we want to ensure that Westown stakeholders are informed about the benefits and potential impacts of the project.  As a part of their stakeholder outreach, Milwaukee County Transit is willing to meet with businesses and property owners.  Please contact Dan Basile at MCTS for more information - dbasile@mcts.org.

Take the MKE United Survey and Share your Voice
Milwaukee is experiencing once-in-a-generation development in the downtown area. This development is creating incredible new opportunities for the city. Due to these new opportunities, MKE United is working on developing an Action Agenda and they want to make sure it represents all voices from Milwaukee's different neighborhoods. The MKE United survey allows Milwaukee residents to share their priorities, ideas, and perceptions regarding key issues to help make Downtown Milwaukee a better place for everyone.
