$25, $50 $100, $150 - What Do You Charge for a Doc Fee?

House Bill 2949, a bill that would streamline government and eliminate unnecessary regulations on auto dealers, was voted out of committee this week and will be heard on the House floor early next week. If the bill becomes law, dealers would no longer have to notify OCCC when they elect to increase their doc fee above $50 but charge less than the current reasonable rate set by the commission at $150. A dealer who fails to notify OCCC currently faces a $1500 fine. So what is your doc fee? Complete this survey so we can do a better job representing your interest.

Start-up Dealer? Do It Right the First Time

If you are not doing everything you can to be the BHPH dealer of choice, it may be time to ask the question: Why should the market allow your business to exist? In this very consumer-driven market, cars are commodities. Start-up dealers should not operate as BHPH based on a few self-financed used cars. It is too expensive a proposition and too regulated without a clear business and community purpose. Many new business owners begin with a business plan, usually to satisfy bank or partner requests. But a plan is also good for the owner to outline the exact research, steps and benchmarks to support success.

IIHS Wants Your Teen Driver Behind the Wheel of These Square Used Vehicles

If you're planning to buy your teen son or daughter their first vehicle - rather than let them work a retail job to save up for a rusting heap - the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety wants a word.  There's good and almost-as-good choices for used cars out there, and none of them are a '95 Cavalier with a blown suspension and more fluid leaks than the Bismark. While the IIHS top picks pack piece of mind for parents, kids might cringe at the less-than-sexy choices.

Which Cars Will Most Likely Last for 200,000 Miles?

If you want a vehicle that can make it to 200,000 miles, what should you buy? Probably not a sedan. A new study finds that large SUVs are the likeliest to keep going to that mileage marker and beyond.  Research from iSeeCars.com found that the Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia are four times as likely and the Chevrolet Suburban 3.5 times as likely as the average vehicle to be still on the road at  200,000 miles.
