Closing Date to Purchase
Elephant Refuge North America Extended!

TIMING IS EVERYTHING
We are excited to share that the closing date for Elephant Refuge North America's property has been extended to December 14th, allowing for more time to collect the funds needed to purchase this elephant paradise. We are nearly half way to our fundraising goal, with slightly more than one million dollars still needed. Thanks to all for your support!

WHAT ELEPHANT REFUGE NORTH AMERICA (ERNA) MEANS FOR ELEPHANTS
ERNA means greater opportunities for captive-held elephants to live natural and fulfilled lives along with compatible others, in an environment that meets their needs. Although a growing number of zoos and many circuses have stopped exhibiting elephants, many of these elephants are simply recycled back into the system that uses them for public entertainment. Until ERNA is an available resource, there are too few options.

Help us ensure that elephants in need of retirement, rescue, and rehabilitation are able to experience true sanctuary at Elephant Refuge North America. Please DONATE NOW and help us reach our goal!

US NEWS
Two states down, 48 to go! California is now the second state, following Rhode Island, to ban the use of bullhooks in elephant "training", recognizing that the designed purpose of these weapons is to intimidate and inflict physical punishment in order to control elephants. With this ban, CA and RI have taken major steps towards preventing cruelty to elephants.

"California's commitment to the humane treatment of elephants is strengthened today. Banning bullhooks removes cruel and horrific treatment against these kind, gentle animals."  California Senator Ricardo Lara

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
This month,TripAdvisor and its booking service,Viator, made a groundbreaking announcement. They will no longer sell tickets to attractions where travelers come into contact with captive-held wild animals. Banned attractions include: elephant rides, swimming-with-dolphins, and petting endangered species such as tigers.

"We believe the end result of our efforts will be enabling travelers to make more thoughtful choices about whether to visit an animal attraction and to write more meaningful reviews about those attractions," TripAdvisor's chief executive and co-founder, Stephen Kaufer
