What Is Thy Name? 7/17/16
Luke 8:30 (KJV)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
A VERY SPECIAL Happy Birthday to my grand daughter, Madison, tomorrow 7/18!!
She ALWAYS religiously reads my sermons and complains LOUDLY if I fail to mention ANY milestones in her life-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADISON!!!!
In the above Scripture, Jesus met a demon possessed man aptly named LEGION.
Jesus promptly cast the demons out of the poor soul and the next time we meet this man he is well and whole and in his right mind:
Luke 8:35 (KJV)
35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
And, of course, this man named Legion was ETERNALLY grateful and wished to remain in the anointing and bliss of Jesus' Presence.
Luke 8:38 (KJV)
38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
Everyone EVER experiencing the PRESENCE OF GOD longs to live there forever!!
As the OLD song sings:
"
JESUS USE ME-O LORD DON'T REFUSE ME.
SURELY THERE'S A WORK THAT I CAN DO!
EVEN THOUGH IT'S HUMBLE-HELP MY WILL TO CRUMBLE.
THOUGH THE COST BE GREAT I'LL WORK FOR YOU!!"
AMEN AND AMEN!!!
But HEAR the wise and gently rebuke of our Lord and Savior:
Luke 8:39 (KJV)
39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
"
RETURN TO THINE OWN HOUSE, AND SHEW HOW GREAT THINGS GOD HATH DONE UNTO THEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Our FIRST and foremost responsibility of sharing the Gospel is with our family!!!
We see this TRUTH also in Jesus' final Words to His disciples right before His Holy Ascension:
Acts 1:8 (KJV)
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The STARTING point for ANY "ministry" is with YOUR family AND YOURSELF!!
As Mama used to say:
"
If you want to change the world, begin with YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The Apostle Paul exhorted his young ward, Timothy:
"
BUT BE THOU AN EXAMPLE OF THE BELIEVERS!!!!"
1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV)
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
My dear friend, Ronnie, preached a powerful word and life lesson a few years ago.
He was crying out to God as to:
"
WHAT his CALLING was and his MISSION/SERVICE to God was needed?"
He wanted to "DO SOMETHING" for God!!!!
God IMMEDIATELY pointed out he was already fulfilling his MINISTRY-
Ronnie was living with and taking care of his aged and invalid mother!!!
Perhaps YOUR mission field is nearer than you think!!!!
Father, where shall I work today'
And my love flowed warm and free.
Then He pointed me out a tiny spot,
And said, "Tend that for me."
I answered quickly, "Oh, no, not that.
Why, no one would ever see,
No matter how well my work was done.
Not that little place for me!"
And the word He spoke, it was not stern,
He answered me tenderly,
"Ah, little one, search that heart of thine;
Art thou working for them or me'
Nazareth was a little place,
And so was Galilee."
