The Northeast Texas Poetry in Schools contest began over 40 years ago, by the Rusk County Poetry Society in Henderson. Young Audiences, Arts for Learning of Northeast Texas took over the project in 2012. This year over 750 poems were submitted by students across Northeast Texas. The contest is open to any 1st-12th grade public, private or home schooled student in the area. The contest aims to provide students with the opportunity to express themselves through writing, but also to learn about the art form of poetry and using language to its fullest potential.
We are so excited to hear from our winning poets!!
YA Week 2019 is on the horizon! Young Audiences Arts for Learning's annual advocacy and awareness initiative, is coming up April 14 - 27, 2019. First championed by Conductor Leonard Bernstein in 1971, YA Week has since grown into an annual, two-week celebration of arts-in-education, when the YA Network works collectively to raise national and local awareness and support.

Fun with Idioms
Idioms are everywhere! They are part of our everyday life. Meet LettyLou! Everyone loves Letty Lou. She literally does everything just as she hears it, and this can sometimes present a problem. No worries though! It always seems to "pan" out! Ha! This hilarious program encouraged students to delight in using the English language. Figurative language can be fun - figuratively speaking that is!
