Trump Latino Advisor Says New Immigration Reform Plan Could Seal the Deal

by Heather Sells via CBN News

One of President Trump's closest evangelical advisors has a bold new plan for immigration reform that he says will meet the approval of one of the biggest power players in Congress - the House Freedom Caucus.

In an exclusive interview on Facebook Live with CBN News, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Leadership Conference (NHCLC), said he's working with the White House to advance an initiative that would stop short of full citizenship .

How did poverty and faith shape your childhood?

I grew up in the concrete jungles of East Los Angeles, but my parents believed in prayer and miracles when it came to our education. Committed to our family and our community, my father, a Mexican immigrant, led mission trips and worked multiple jobs to feed his family of six. My Puerto Rican mother homeschooled me and my other siblings. When the pantry and fridge were bare, we confidently prayed for food, and God provided.

The Power of a Great Attitude

The four young men arrived exactly on time. It was pouring buckets of rain but no one complained.

The young men had volunteered, at the request of their pastor, to help Amy and me move our son Jonathan to a new apartment in preparation for starting law school.

We had never met any of the teenage volunteers but they treated us like family. They were cheerful, positive and worked hard as the rain drenched their clothing.

"'I myself will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.'" - Leviticus 26:32

The Torah portion for this week is a double reading, Behar-Bechukotai, from Leviticus 25:1-27:34. Behar means "the mountain," and Bechukotai means "My decrees." The Haftorah is from Jeremiah 16:19-17:14.

On May 24th, 1626, Peter Minuit purchased a small island off the coast of America. Local Native Americans sold it to him for a load of cloth, beads, and other goods that were worth 60 guilders. Today, it is estimated that 60 guilders is equivalent to as little as $24 or as much as $1,000. But either way, it's a pretty small price to pay for the island that is now known as Manhattan. If those Native Americans would have known what Manhattan would become, surely they would have never sold it.
