Lilla recently asked Allison about her thoughts on lettering, dream jobs, and where to get something good to eat in Providence: Lilla Rogers: Did you always love lettering?
Allison Cole: Yes! As a kid I was an avid comic book reader, and when I started making my own comics I paid very close attention to how hand lettering can bring another level to the text and visual information. You can pack a lot of personality into letter forms. I am also hugely inspired by the hand-lettered comics and show posters that were created by the Providence-based Fort Thunder collective.

LR: What would your dream job be?
AC: I have a lot of dream jobs! Anything stationery-related is always fun, books, children's books, product design, editorial... I'm pretty much going to be excited about everything, I love what I do! LR: What's the most exciting thing to happen in your career of late?
AC: My first fabric collection - coming soon from Camelot Cottons!

LR: You attended RISD, one of the most prestigious US art schools. Do you recommend it for others?
AC: Absolutely. I loved every minute of school! You are surrounded by peers as insanely driven as you are, and everyone helps to support and push one another further.

LR: Tell us a great place to eat or get coffee in your hometown of Providence.
AC: I've been a regular customer of Nick's On Broadway for almost 10 years now - pretty much any meal you get there is bound to be incredible, and the coffee is great!
