Earlier this week, I kicked off the Sati Life Workin' It Out event with a pep talk. I asked the group if anyone looks in the mirror truly loves what they see. I have to admit that I was actually taken aback and surprised when the entire room of 120 people burst out laughing, because I wasn't being sarcastic. It was in that moment that I got it. I realized how far most of us are from looking in the mirror and loving what we see, being nice, appreciating our body. Even just that concept is so foreign to so many that it brings about laughter. After the whole room chuckled, it was actually the perfect segue into my topic for the evening "What makes you beautiful?"
Take a moment right now to think about what you said to yourself in the mirror as you were getting dressed this morning, or as you caught a glimpse of your reflection in a window. Were you nice? Did you compliment yourself? Or was there a degrading, mean voice spouting out thoughts? What do you think it would take for you to be free from that mean girl or boy in your head? Do you even think it can be done?
I believe that until you kick out that bully in your mind, you will not experience your real beauty, for real beauty is an attribute of love. When your mind is filled with worry, fear, doubt or criticism about yourself or anyone else, it takes a toll on your physical, emotional and mental health. We don't just gain weight because we eat too many calories and don't exercise enough, there is an emotional, mental and spiritual aspect to it as well. When you repeatedly think and feel negative emotions, it becomes the fabric of your being. That emotion or feeling becomes you and it creates a toxic, acidic environment for your body, your mind- your entire life. That fabric ages you, depresses your immune system, clogs your creativity and puts your body in high stress mode. When your body is stressed out it will not metabolize or detoxify efficiently. You will tend to gain weight, feel tired irritable and unmotivated.
If you want to be able to look in the mirror and love what you see, if you want to radiate real beauty, youthfulness and health you will have to commit to detoxifying your mind from stressful, mean, worrisome and negative thoughts.
