2016 Rhode Island Home Show featuring a Tree House with a Vertical Platform Lift manufactured by Ram Elevators. This was installed to provide accessibility for those attending the Home Show.  After the show we dismantled it and we were excited to donate this to the Boys & Girls Club in Providence.   "The kids are anxious to learn in the Tree House this fall.  We are ecstatic to be able to have accessibility for all" said Nicole Dufresne, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Providence.

Greetings,

I would like to start by saying 'Thank You' for taking the time to open up and read this inaugural issue of "What's Behind the Elevator Door."  In light of the growing popularity with residential elevators and lifts and some of the growing issues I have observed, I thought this would be a great resource for architects, builders and project managers who are increasingly being asked by their clients to supply this type of equipment.  More and more clients are aging-in-place or looking to bring more accessibility into their home.

With over 3o years experience dealing with residential elevators, I feel I can offer invaluable insight into what a successful installation looks like.  In future issues of this e-newsletter, you can count on insightful articles dealing with industry developments, code-related changes, project management and other relevant topics.  We also want this to be a resource platform for you as you consider the many options available today in regards to residential elevators and lifts.

In closing, again, thank you for your time and we are available to answer any question you may have - now or in the future.

Bill & Linda Bohmbach

Code Considerations

The update to the codes outlined in the ASME A.17.1-2013 are expected to be released later this year.  We expect many code changes to be announced in this update.  Stay tuned for more details.

Questions to Ask?

Question: How much space will I need to install an elevator in my home?

Answer: Typically an unfinished hoist way of 5' x 5' is large enough for practically any home elevator.  Home Healthsmith will provide information explaining all of the space requirements.  Many manufacturers provide Planning Guides that are perfect for architects and builders to review in preparation for elevator installation.

Keep in mind that most elevator companies have minimum cab sizes that are larger than what is practical for the homeowner.  There are times when a homeowner who has limited space will need a smaller elevator.  Inclinator's space-saving monorail design allows for smaller elevator cabs, due to the smaller dimensions of their elevator bases.
