Make a Donation to Episcopal Charities on May 17 & your donation will be matched!
As a member of the Board of the Episcopal Charities of South East Florida, I would like to make you aware of a coming opportunity to make donations to EC that will be matched by community organizations of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.  It is simple to do.

On May 17, go to the web:
GreatGiveFlorida.org  and find Episcopal Charities which has been approved as an organization to participate in the Great Give. There you can give online any amount that you can. This must be done during the 24 hours of May 17 to count for the matching.

Remember Episcopal Charities supports after school programs, homeless feeding programs, homeless care programs and adult day care programs.  St. Gregory's draws support for these programs that Episcopal Charities makes grants to:  Family Promise, Holy Redeemer feeding and St. Lawrence Chapel.

Consider a donation of any size.  Ask others to join in on the Great Give May 17.  Watch the website during the day to see how donations are going.  Remember only gifts that are made in the 24 hours that is May 17 count for matching purposes.

Please ask Maralee Pope or myself if you have any questions.

Update on the Search Process for an Assistant Rector
The Vestry has reviewed the position description for an Assistant Rector and this week the position description will be posted nationally.  Applications will be received through June and interviews will begin in August. We hope to issue a call by November 1st. Please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon this entire process.
From Tim Brumfield, Director of Music Ministries
In this Sunday's Gospel reading from John we hear Jesus tell us "Do not let your hearts be troubled...I am the Way, the Truth and the Life."  15th century Welsh-born poet and Anglican priest George Herbert took this Gospel reading and composed the poem "The Call" as part of a set of poems he entitled Five Mystical Songs, the first of which is entitled "Easter." 20th century English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams set these poems to music for baritone solo and choir and they have since become some of the Anglican church's best-loved and inspirational works, being performed together and individually. We heard the first song in the set, "Easter," a couple of weeks ago with Chase Wheeler and the choir and on Sunday we will hear the fourth song in the set entitled "The Call" with Chase as soloist once again. This song has been adapted as a hymn in the Episcopal Church and we do sing it often. On Sunday, you will have the rare opportunity to hear it as it was originally set to music by V. Williams.

The Call from Five Mystical Songs
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: Such a Way, as gives us Breath: Such a Truth, as ends all strife: Such a Life, as killeth death. Come, my Light my Feast, my Strength: Such a Light, as shows a feast: Such a Feast, as mends in length: Such a Strength, as makes his guest. Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: Such a Joy, as none can move: Such a Love, as none can part:Such a Heart, as joys in love.

Save the date and join us for Evensong, Sunday, May 21st at 5 PM.
Evensong is perhaps one of the most beautiful of all services that comes out of the Anglican tradition.  It is basically Evening Prayer, except that most of it, with the exception of a few prayers and scripture readings, is sung by a choir and cantor.  The office of Evensong traces its history of origin all the way back to Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Mary I under whose hand he was burned at the stake in Oxford during her attempt to return England to Catholicism.  Cranmer was trying to figure out a way to reduce the number of services within a day as there were a series of services known as The Hours which required one to attend many services throughout the day.  He ended up combining two of the final services of the day which were Vespers, sung at sunset, and Compline, so called because it completed the day, into one service.  We find that the two major canticles of Evensong, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, come from Vespers and Compline respectfully.  The form of the service with the psalms, scripture, collects and prayers all originate from these two services and haven't changed too terribly much since first appearing in the 1549 Prayer Book.

Many countless musical settings of the canticles and psalms have been composed throughout the centuries making the service of Evensong rich in musical diversity, beauty, and heritage and we in the Anglican Church are very blessed to have these services upon which to draw inspiration and guidance through their graceful elegance and tradition.
The Choir's Last Sunday is May 21st
The Choir's Last Sunday will be May 21 as they sing for the 10 AM service and for Evensong at 5 PM.  We offer our appreciation and thanks to the choir for their beautiful and inspiring music each week and we eagerly await their return. Since Sunday, May 21 is the last time our wonderful Choir will formally sing for us until fall,  this is a perfect opportunity to honor Tim and the Choir at the 10 AM Coffee Hour!  Please help us make this a true celebration by bringing a goodie to share.  Savory to sweets, the more, the better! Help us celebrate!

Building Friendships: Anyone up for Summer Mini-Foyer Supper Group?
Our Foyer Group has had so much fun this winter! We've formed great new St. Gregory's friendships and savored delicious pot luck dinners!

If you'd like to get to know more St. Gregory's people, we're looking for folks interested in a summer chill mini-foyer group that will hold smaller informal suppers over the summer.  They can be a pot luck salad bar at home, supper at a place with summer menu deals, or cheeseburgers in conjunction with a visit to one of our outreach programs or local attractions: use your imagination! Singles and couples are all welcome, and no worry if you don't have a dining room or many dishes! Roughly 4 or 5 suppers between June and October. Join the fun!!

Parishioner Alert

He was informed that there have been problems with mail being taken from the boxes at this location. It also has happened in Deerfield. Avoid the risk, take your mail inside.
