The AARP Smart Driver course teaches valuable defensive driving skills and provides a refresher of the rules of the road.  Since 1979, the course has helped over 14 million drivers learn proven safety strategies and tips for how to adapt one/s driving to compensate for physical and cognitive changes that may come with aging.  Plus, you may qualify for an automobile insurance discount by completing the course (participants should check with their auto insurance agent for details.

The scene is Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at 30 and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach.

Author Stew Magnuson will sign copies of his book, "The Last American Highway: A Journey Through Time Down U.S. Route 83: The Dakotas" from . at the Heritage Store located on the first floor of the Capitol. Magnuson shares tales of the history he learned and the fascinating people he encountered along the road. The book is available at the Heritage Store at the Capitol and the Cultural Heritage Center.

It Just Takes One - Fundraiser

The "It Just Takes One" event at McDonald's which was cancelled due to the blizzard last Monday has been re-scheduled for: **Thursday, April 24th! 5pm-8pm** 20% of all sales will be donated to the Club.  Come down to support and for your chance to win some cool prizes including free dessert from McDonald's for a whole year, two Twins game tickets, plus more. The store will be decorated, the Torch Club kids will be out and about and we'll be ready for ya!

Post 8 Baseball Roast Beef Feed

  • There is no cost for this event, but free will donations can be made to Post 8 Baseball. Modern Woodmen will be donating $3.00 to the baseball program for each person attending.

Modern Woodmen of America along with Post 8 baseball will be honoring Mike Kelley for his years of dedication and service to the youth baseball program in Pierre as a true Home Town Hero.

Stand Up to Child Abuse 5K run/walk

The Avera St. Mary's Hospital Central South Dakota Child Assessment Center - Prevention Coalition is promoting awareness of Child Abuse Prevention through a 5 K run/walk. All proceeds are directed to future prevention efforts.

Walk MS Pierre

The MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them. This community event raises critical fund to support life changing programs and cutting-edge research. Strawberryfest at Mostly Chocolates

Motorcycle Charity Ride
