There are parts for 8 males and 4 females. This adaptation is based on the timeless swashbuckler by Alexandre Dumas, a tale of heroism, treachery, close escapes and above all, honor. The story, set in 1625, begins with d'Artagnan who sets off for Paris in search of adventure. Along with d'Artagnan goes Sabine, his sister, the quintessential tomboy. Sent with d'Artagnan to attend a convent school in Paris, she poses as a young man - d'Artagnan's servant - and quickly becomes entangled in her brother's adventures. Soon after reaching Paris, d'Artagnan encounters the greatest heroes of the day, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the famous musketeers, and he joins forces with his heroes to defend the honor of the Queen of France. In so doing, he finds himself in opposition to the most dangerous man in Europe, Cardinal Richelieu. Even more deadly is the infamous Countess de Winter, known as Milady, who will stop at nothing to revenge herself on d'Artagnan - and Sabine - for their meddlesome behavior. Little does Milady know that the young girl she scorns, Sabine, will ultimately save the day. "The Three Musketeers" is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

  • Just south of the Pierre Regional Airport terminal
  • Contact: Mike Isaacs, Airport Manager - 773-7447
The City of Pierre will host an open house at the new Airport Fire Station just south of the Pierre Regional Airport terminal.

The 6,000 square foot facility houses large emergency response vehicles and equipment utilized in the event of an airport emergency. Federal law mandates that airports with commercial air service provide on-site fire protection for every commercial flight. The new ARFF (Airport Rescue Firefighter) Station replaces a fire station that was built in 1978 and no longer meets federal guidelines.

The new facility cost about $2.1-million to build. The City used a federal grant to cover 90% of the cost. A state grant paid for another 5%. The City paid for the remaining $121,000.

When Annie's husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend, Chris, resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. The play is based on the true story of 11 WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund. No other part of the West saw such a succession of tradin posts as did the heart of modern-day South Dakota, where the Bad River meets the Missouri. Two of the trading posts, Fort Tecumseh and Fort Pierre Chouteau, reached their gold age under the American Fur Company in the 1830s and 1840s. Michael R. Casler will discuss "Fort Tecumseh and Fort Pierre Chouteau: Journal and Letter Books, 1830-1850" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Cultural Heritage Center.
C ompany employees recorded daily activities in journals and relayed company business in letters. Letter books, which contained copies of all outgoing correspondence, were once common items at all posts on the upper Missouri River. W. Raymond Wood transcribed the letters, while Casler annotated them. The result is a look at the fur trade on the Upper Missouri in the early 1800s. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program. The book is published by the South Dakota Historical Society Press and available at the Heritage Stores at the Cultural Heritage Center and the Capitol.
