Volunteers Needed For:
Bassmaster Elite Series on Lake Oahe
|
The Bassmaster Elite Series is the #1 tournament series in fresh water fishing. Over 100 of the world's best anglers compete at the highest level of bass fishing. They will be fishing on Lake Oahe. Weigh-in will be at Steamboat Park in Pierre.
As a host city, Pierre is obliged to do a festival in connection with the weigh-in at Steamboat Park. The Great Outdoors Festival will be held in Steamboat Park from 11:00am-6:00pm on Saturday, June 30 & Sunday, July 1, 2018. There will be food, beverages, music & fun for all ages!
Times may vary.
Must be 18 or older to volunteer.

Free Rides to Seniors
|
River Cities Public Transit will provide FREE rides to seniors, age 60+, on Thursdays to the pot-luck luncheon at the Pierre Senior Citizen Center for a three months trial basis. The intent is to gauge interest from the community and demonstrate the ease of using transit. Riders must pre-register with RCPT and call in at least the day before to arrange their pick-up time. Return trips should be scheduled at the same time, if possible.
This trial basis will run for 3 months, March - May, 2018.

This is a great opportunity for you to help provide tours and share the knowledge of South Dakota's rich history and our State Capitol to various schools & groups. For those who wish to help provide guided tours of the Capitol, there will be a short training by one of our experienced Tour Guide staff, along with easy-to-follow material to aide you. The national spotlight shown on South Dakota during the summer of 1927. President Calvin Coolidge spent nearly three months in the Black Hills. Seth
Tupper of Rapid City tells of the visit in his book "Calvin Coolidge in the Black Hills." His PowerPoint presentation will focus mainly on the president's time in the Black Hills, but will include a few humorous stories about the stopover Coolidge made in Pierre during the train trip to Rapid City. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program. "Calvin Coolidge in the Black Hills" is available at the Heritage Stores at the Cultural Heritage Center and the Capitol.

22nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade will start at 5:15 p.m. in the Georgia Morris School parking lot and proceed down Pierre Street, turn right on Dakota Avenue, continue to Central Ave and turn left towards the river, ending at the Legion parking lot (Island View Drive). No preregistration or charge, just be at the Georgia Morris parking lot before 5:15 p.m. to lineup for the parade.
The stew feed starts at 4:30 p.m. at the American Legion and run until the Pierre/Ft. Pierre Lions Club runs out of food. Prices for adults $8, children are $4 (ages 10 and under).

The American Association of University Women is seeking donations from the public of used books, CDs, and DVDs through March 20, 2018. These items can be dropped off at collection boxes located at Dakotamart in both Pierre and Ft. Pierre, the YMCA lobby, and Northridge Plaza near the former Glik's store. Anyone who has a large number of books to donate may call 280-3289 or 413-8481 to arrange pick up.
The 30th annual AAUW used book sale will be held from 10 am. to 6 pm. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, and from noon to 3 pm. Sunday, March 25, 2018. at the Northridge Plaza in the former Glik's store location. Proceeds from this annual used book sale help fund local scholarships and community projects.
