Based off the hit TV show The Amazing Race, teams of two follow clues in a race around the Pierre area to various attractions and businesses. Along the way the teams will pickup playing cards. First-in & best poker hand are the winners!

Volunteers Needed For:
Bassmaster Elite Series
at Lake Oahe
The Bassmaster Elite Series is the #1 tournament series in fresh water fishing. Over 100 of the world's best anglers compete at the highest level of bass fishing. They will be fishing on Lake Oahe. Weigh-in will be at Steamboat Park in Pierre.

As a host city, Pierre is obliged to do a festival in connection with the weigh-in at Steamboat Park. The Great Outdoors Festival will be held in Steamboat Park from 11:00am-6:00pm on Saturday, June 30 & Sunday, July 1, 2018. There will be food, beverages, music & fun for all ages!

Times may vary.
Must be 18 or older to volunteer.

Free Rides to Seniors
River Cities Public Transit will provide FREE rides to seniors, age 60+, on Thursdays to the pot-luck luncheon at the Pierre Senior Citizen Center for a three months trial basis. The intent is to gauge interest from the community and demonstrate the ease of using transit. Riders must pre-register with RCPT and call in at least the day before to arrange their pick-up time. Return trips should be scheduled at the same time, if possible.
 
This trial basis will run for 3 months, March - May, 2018.

This is a great opportunity for you to help provide tours and share the knowledge of South Dakota's rich history and our State Capitol to various schools & groups.

 

For those who wish to help provide guided tours of the Capitol, there will be a short training by one of our experienced Tour Guide staff, along with easy-to-follow material to aide you.

T.F. Riggs High School Theatre Department will present the musical Bye Bye Birdie. Showings are at 7 PM on both Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17 and at 5:30 PM on Thursday, April 19th. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students, and activity passes will be accepted. First produced in 1960, Bye Bye Birdie is the energetic story of music star Conrad Birdie and his managers as they take on the country with a publicity stunt before Conrad is drafted into the army. The musical is directed by Jenny Hodges, vocal direction y Rodd Bauck, pit orchestra by Mackenzie McKeithan Jenson an choreography by Courtney Hoff.

Relay for Life is the largest fundraiser for the American cancer Society. The theme for the 2018 Relay for Life is Rings of Hope. Please come out to the Northridge Plaza and support the American Cancer Society, play some games, and honor/remember those people that you know and love that have been effected by cancer.

This class provides important childbirth information. All expectant moms are welcome to attend this class with their family support person. Topics covered include: Warning signs and progression of Labor, relaxation techniques, comfort and pain management, newborn care Practices of Avera St. Mary's Women's Center Childbirth Class is a 1-session class held on one Saturday each quarter at Avera St. Mary's Hospital Cafeteria Conference Room from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. To build or not to build. The decision is yours. This summer, you have the chance to decide whether or not a water treatment plant should be built in Pierre. The issue is on the June 5 Primary ballot. To get information on the proposed water treatment plant, come to the April 23 public meeting. There you can get your questions answered about how much the project will cost, how the project came about, and what it will mean for your water quality. The meting starts a 5:3 at Northridge Plaza.

Make-A-Wish South Dakota is in need of wish granter volunteers in the Pierre area. As a member of a wish team, wish granters meet with the family, help the wish child determine the wish, provide wish enhancements and act as a liaison between Make-A-Wish South Dakota staff and the wish family during the wish process. Wish granters must be a minimum of 18 years old. Attendance at an in-depth Wish Granter training session is required.

She wants to do it, but her boyfriend, Walter, is dead set against it, and Gussie discovers she has stage fright and can't open her mouth in front of a camera. Everybody tries to help her get over it... Walter through hypnotism, Bernie her agent by threats; and even wacky Gypsy Carmen from next door casts spells. Just when she thinks she's cured, the taping turns into a comic nightmare concluding in an all out food fight that almost ends the show and her relationship.
