What's Happening at St. Mary's - June/July Edition
Bill Haines, Editor
All things come of thee O Lord; and of thine own have we given thee. We give of our time, our talent, and our treasure.

This was so evident at the Strawberry Festival . Thank you to all the volunteers who served as servers, bakers, and kitchen crew, some of whom did all three jobs. Karin Hampel provided the music. Cynthia and Lou Schweickhart chaired the event and thanks to parishioners and guests, $900 was donated to St. Mary's music program. The business community, Conover's Farm Market, Springer's Ice Cream, Gelato & Company, and the Bread & Cheese Cupboard contributed their delicious products. Again, thanks to all for a fun and successful day.

The Summer Concert Series begins on Friday, June 29th with Pianist, Karin Hampel. The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the church. Refreshments will follow. Come and enjoy the music.

St. Mary's is host church for Family Promise this week. Joan Langston, as usual, has everything under control. Two families are scheduled to spend the evenings with us. St. Mary's will provide a family-style dinner on Saturday evening.

While Fr. Peter was away, Fr. Gorman was Celebrant for the past two Sundays. We are so fortunate at St. Mary's. In addition to two wonderful priests, we also have Wayne Conrad, a Methodist minister, who worships with us at the 8 am service. Wayne and wife, Sue also attend Adult Forum. Without hesitation, Wayne offered to lead the Forum in the absence of Fr. Gorman. The Adult Forum had an interesting two Sundays exploring the function of the brain. Thank you, Wayne.
Fr. Gorman returns on July 1.

conTEXTS will not meet on July 4. July 11 will be SWEEP's meeting in the parish hall at 6:30 pm. conTEXTS will resume on July 18 at 6:30 pm in the parish hall.

Thursday on the Lawn concerts begin on July 5 with Jim Bannach at 7 pm. Bring your beach chair or blanket and listen to the sounds of summer. The summer schedule is posted in the parish hall, along with a hospitality sign up sheet.

July will be in full swing as Worship at the Beach starts on Saturday, July 7th at 5 pm on the 101st St. pavilion. Guitarist, Tom Werkheiser will provide music for the service. You can sleep in on Sunday.

Mark your calendar for three Wednesdays, July 11 to July 25. Our esteemed organist, David Condo, is offering, "Music is Food for the Soul."  It will be held in the church at 12 noon. Bring a bag lunch and join David for music, lunch and discussion. Beverages and dessert will be provided.

SPECIAL SUNDAY!!  Bishop Stokes will celebrate Eucharist with us on July 15 at 9 am. There will be one service followed by a Town Hall meeting with a potluck brunch in the parish hall. This is the first step in our process of discernment to call a Priest in Charge when Fr. Peter's time with us ends in October, 2019. Please plan to attend this important meeting with Bishop Stokes.

WOW Sunday!  The first results are in that would make Jesus say WOW if he came to St. Mary's.  "Congregation wear name tags. We will need a rack for all and the greeter could make up visitors." "Develop a lunch program for the school children in Cape May County in the summer who get their lunch at school during the school year. This could be a Branches outreach." "Present food for St. Barnabas as a community food bank at offering." "Purchase a handicap accessible van for those who need transportation to Sunday services and other church related activities" "Enough young people to form a Jr. choir."  Card received from a visitor from Lancaster, PA, "I have been a member of your parish family one week every year for 52 years. I now bring my family (3 sons) as my parents brought me. We have always found you to be so welcoming."
I understand most of the 10 o'clock congregation took their cards home and will return them this week. I would like to have all the cards displayed when Bishop Stokes visits on the 15th. The Bishop should know that we are excited and planning for our future. Extra cards are available in the narthex.
