1,045,000 ft. Five Below Distribution Center Comes To Oldman's Twp.

Did you know.... The national retail chain Five Below broke ground in Oldmans Township for a one million square foot distribution center that will handle ...future growth and expansion on the East Coast.

The distribution center, to be "built-to-suit" and managed by NFI, which is headquartered in Cherry Hill, will replace the existing Five Below warehouse in New Castle, Delaware and create some 175 jobs to Salem County.

"Today's groundbreaking is the culmination of the County and Township's efforts to bring new economic growth to Salem County and further develop our Gateway Park," said Julie Acton, Freeholder Director. "This new distribution center will be completed by next April and ready for business early in the summer."

The next step, said Freeholder Acton, is to collaborate with Salem Community College, Five Below, and NFI to determine course offerings that can provide Salem County residents with the skills needed to operate the new warehouse. "More than anything, we want our economic development in Salem County to translate into solid jobs and career opportunities for our residents - especially for our young people. We want them to stay."

NFI will oversee construction, development, and property management for the new energy efficient 1,045,000 square foot distribution facility that will support Five Below's needs. Five Below will initially lease about three-quarters of the square footage.

Since the new warehouse will be about 12 miles from the one that will be closed, Five Below will be able to offer continued employment to its employees in Delaware, as well as create as many as 100 new jobs over the next few years.
"Our location was critical to this decision," explained Freeholder Director Acton. "This is a win-win. Current employees will not be forced out of their jobs, and as many as 100 new jobs will be available to our residents. I think this is a sure sign Salem County is starting to recover from the hard times we have faced. We are grateful to Oldmans Township, and I am excited for all of us in Salem County."
Five Below is a leading retailer for what is described as "trend right, high-quality, extreme-value merchandise." NFI is nationally recognized for its build-to-suit warehouse solutions.

Business Expansion at Siegfried USA

Freeholder Director Julie Acton said the new state-of-the-art facility that opened Wednesday at the Pennsville site of the Siegfried-USA pharmaceutical plant is the bell weather of economic growth in Salem County.

"Earlier this week we broke ground for a 1 million square foot distribution center at Gateway Park in Oldmans Township, and mid-week we are here at a ribbon cutting ceremony to open a new four-story building for Siegfried's expansion. After years of work, we are seeing the benefits for our residents," she said. "This is the harbinger of more good to come."

Siegfried is an international pharmaceutical company headquartered in Switzerland, with its New Jersey plant located off Industrial Park Road in Pennsville. The plant employs 184 people who use different chemical processes to manufacture the compounds that go into consumer medicines.

"We do not have a firm number on new jobs being created by this newer process, but this expansion provides for more opportunities at the site, and it certainly solidifies Siegfied's presence as a major employer in Salem County, " said Deputy Freeholder Director Dale Cross. "Salem County is moving forward."

The four-story building at the Pennsville pharmaceutical site will house the final manufacturing step known as a "spray drying system," which is used to separate the active ingredients from a solvent. The active ingredient solution is sprayed into a massive cylinder with hot gas and then travels through a tower until the liquid evaporates, leaving a dry powder. The process, which Siegfried officials said is more efficient and "greener," allows the evaporated solvent to be recycled and reused in another batch.

"The expansion of Siegfried is an important milestone," said company chairman Andreas Casutt. He said prior to construction, the company secured several additional key products that offer potential for significant growth.
