What's Happening at Christ the King

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

August 13th

Prayer moves mountains.
~Matthew 17:20

I don't believe I encountered anything close to the frightening storm the disciples encountered, but the disappointing news from the doctor after my recent, simple, routine, outpatient, hernia surgery said to me "It was bigger than anticipate and will require a longer recovery and patience."  Well that was July 26 and Monday, August 7 was my first day back in the office and I'm happy for it!  I will be gradually working into more hours, as my endurance for standing, speaking, and just exerting energy increases.  Saturday was the big turn-around day for feeling more human and more able!  Thank you to Pastor Tim for his friendship and support to cover extra duties and encourage me to take the time I need to properly heal.  Thank you to our retired pastors who have been so supportive and are quick to help when there has been need for coverage and have done so!  Thank you to many of you, the people of CtK, who have shared texts, emails, cards, prayers, and well wishes - they have been a great source of encouragement and strength when I wasn't feeling so strong or patient.  I pale in comparison to what many individuals and families go through in their lives.  Through the years I have given encouragement and I have prayed for many after their surgeries, illnesses, and in their times of need.  I am reminded after being on both sides of the hospital bed that prayer is an important spiritual practice in our faith lives and I am happy to many of you have done it for me and I continue to endeavor to do it for you!  In Matt 14:23 Jesus retreats to a mountain to pray. If this is not part of your spiritual discipline, I encourage you to follow Jesus' example to develop or keep others in prayer for the sake of many who are in need!

God's Blessings & God's Peace - See you in church!
Pastor Nate

Readings for this Week

Here are this week's readings. Sermon and scripture retention and application on Sunday morning jumps dramatically for those who read and engage the scripture during the week prior. (Click on the readings to find them online or use your Bible.)

Questions for Matthew 14:22-33

1)      What distracts us from Jesus command to "Come" and follow him?
2)     When have you had to say to Jesus "Save me"?  If you haven't ever said "Jesus, save me" are there times Jesus has saved you anyway?
3)     Often times we think of Thomas as the disciple who doubts.  Jesus asks Peter why he doubts?  Do you have doubts in your faith life?
4)     The disciples encountered a frightening storm, but Jesus sees them through.  How has Jesus brought you through storms in your life?

Fellowship Hosting Starting

Fellowship Hosting will resume again in September. We hope you had a great summer, but once September comes, we are back to "normal." Once again, fellowship will be between services. There is a new sign-up sheet for the fall of 2017 in the narthex. Please consider signing up for one (or two) time slots. Volunteers set up, make coffee and put out the cookies for fellowship between services. This could be anyone whether they go to the 8:30 a.m.
service or the 10:15 a.m. service. At least two people per Sunday is required. All your help is greatly appreciated. Questions? Please contact Shirley at 788-6492 Ext 101.

A Call for Cookies for Fellowship!
Fellowship will be starting again soon in September. Many cookies will be NEEDED!  If you find that there is a rainy day and the kids are "bored," maybe you could take an afternoon and bake some cookies to be donated to CtK for our upcoming fellowship season. At any rate, they do not have to be homemade. If you find yourself at the grocery store, pick up an extra pack or two for donating as well. We also need gluten free cookies and those without peanuts. Please drop off cookies at church & mark for "Fellowship."  Thanks so much for your generosity!
