"Make Love Your Aim"

I recall my father sharing a wedding message with a couple and pulling out a target with a heart and an arrow going through the center.  His message was "Make love your aim."

Pastor Tim and I have had several requests for wedding vow renewals this year.  In fact, I don't remember a year in ministry where there have been so many couples requesting to renew their wedding vows and their commitment to God and to each other.  This is a great!

Last week I met with a couple for their vow renewal and I used I Corinthians 13.  Paul writes about what love is: patient, kind, rejoices in truth, it bears, believes, hopes and endures all things, love never ends.  Paul also shares what love is not: envious, boastful, arrogant, rude, does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable, resentful, and does not rejoice in wrongdoing.  People in Paul's day, as is true today, were/are confused between love and lust.  Unlike lust, God's kind of love is intended to be directed outward toward others, not inward toward ourselves.  Setting aside our desires to give love, expecting nothing in return is God's intention.  This can be tough when we are bombarded with commercials, music, and attitudes about how we're worth it, you deserve more, and how you will feel "better" in some way if you gratify your desires.  However, if we make God's love our aim, as Paul describes it, with our spouses or with other people we interact with, we will see more and more God's kingdom evident here and now.  Let us each practice making God's love our aim!

God's Blessings & Peace,
Pastor Nate
