This Sunday
Summer Sermon Series:
Love Thy Neighbor
Begins July 2nd through 30th

When asked "What is the most important commandment" Jesus replies with the Shema- the crux of the entire Torah and our New Testament "'Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." We know we are to love our neighbors, and we are good at brining over casseroles and shoveling drive ways. But, what about when loving your neighbor is inconvenient, when it is messy and complicated? What about when loving your neighbor is hard? This July we will explore what it means to love your neighbor- what does it mean to love your Muslim American neighbor, what does it mean to love your neighbor struggling with addiction, what does it mean to love your neighbor who is having a mental health crisis, what does it mean to love our immigrant neighbor? For God calls us to love always- not just when it's easy so how do we love our neighbors through the brokenness and beauty of this life?
Sermon Series Continues
July 16th

Our summer sermon series,  Love Thy Neighbor,  continues this Sunday as we explore the challenges of addiction in our daily lives. It's easy to love your neighbors when everyone is happy and healthy, but how do we navigate the waters with the uncertainty, disappointment and pain that can accompany addiction? Join us this Sunday, July 16th in this special  and important

July 23, 10:30 am

Please join us in FCCGE's kitchen on July 23rd right after worship to prepare 200 sandwiches for the  Night Ministry. We need donations of bread and fillings like turkey, ham, cheese, peanut butter and jelly, single bags of chips, clementines and plastic sandwich bags that seal. Contact  Tyler to sign up to help and to donate. Many hands make light work. Let's show our homeless neighbors some compassion.

OUCH! Pain in the Pews!

So you're sitting in one of our pews and during a reflective prayer or fab sermon you notice a little... something. A button has popped off of our pew cushions and is now digging into your leg! Sharon Wussow is looking for people that can help sew these missing buttons back on-500 of them to be exact (buttons, not people :-) You don't need a sewing background or know-how to help in this project. It's super easy, goes quickly and you'll be trained on how to do it. Sharon will work with your schedule to make it convenient to help - give us 10 minutes or an hour of your time - it's up to you! Please contact Sharon here.

Meet Our Summer Interns

I'm Hailey Ardell and I just completed my senior year at Glenbard West High School. I will be attending Miami University in Ohio in the fall. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time with my friends and my cats. During my time interning at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, I'm looking forward to learning more about ministry and our congregation while working with clergy.

Hi, I'm Jaime. I go to Glenbard west where I am a member of the schools marching band and forensics team. I've been going to our church for as long as I can remember and I hope that I can learn a lot from this experience. I also think this internship is also a great way to help and give back to the church that I've gone to for so many years, and I'm excited for the coming months ahead.

I'm Emily Gaertner and I'm going to be a Senior at Glenbard West High School.  In my free time, I like to play Field Hockey, go on walks with my dog, and hang out with my friends.  At school, I am President of Glenbard West STEM Club and West Students Making a Difference, Vice President of National Honors Society, as well as a member of the Model United Nations team.  I'm super excited to be an intern at the church and am looking forward to learning about the ways an active church spreads God's love through the congregation and community.

Alyssa Springer will be attending Iowa State in the fall, hoping to double major in English and Religious Studies with hopes of joining the Peace Corp after college. She likes listening music, reading, and spending time with friends. Alyssa has enjoyed being a part of this community thus far and looks forward to an opportunity to grow more through the summer internship program.
