Onward House Gift Appeal
Imagine a Child's Christmas Without Gifts

Let's celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus by following one of His basic teachings: care for others. What better way than to provide gifts for children that otherwise would greet  Christmas  morning with an empty tree? Onward House, located in Chicago, has given us this years' list of names and wishes of 200 children that need our help. It's SO simple: starting Sunday, November 19th, grab a name from the table in the atrium, next time you're Christmas shopping, pick up or order a toy or some clothes from the child's list. Box, wrap, bring to church by Sunday December 17th. Done. Happy child, Merry Christmas. Here are the instructions. If you have questions, contact Marge Kovatch.
Monday, December 18th, 3:00 pm

Michigan Avenue is beginning to glitter ... a perfect combination for our Annual Holiday Tea at Chicago's famous Drake Hotel on Michigan Avenue.  As we embrace this wondrous Advent Season and try to not let the excitement overwhelm us, this is just the antidote for holiday stress.  Take a few hours to step out of the holiday hustle and bustle and step into the elegance of the Palm Court at the Drake Hotel. R.S.V.P. to Celia Rodee or - 630-564-1854 no later than Tuesday, December 12th.  Read more.

Glen Ellyn Food Pantry Thanksgiving Meal Appeal

Thanksgiving is a time for reflecting on all the blessings we have received over the year, when we look forward to enjoying the company of loved ones while eating a holiday dinner.  Unfortunately, not all of our neighbors can afford this simple, traditional celebration.  The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry needs your help to sponsor Thanksgiving Food Boxes for 600 local families in need.   Suggested donation is $50, but any amount is appreciated.   Donations may be made online here or mailed to Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, 493 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn IL 60137.  Envelopes are in the church lobby.

Nov.  21st, 8 am

On November 21st the  Amen Mens Bible study group will begin reading and discussing "The First Christmas" by scholars Marcus Borg and John Crossan. In this wonderful book we will see the real Christmas story buried in the familiar Gospels of Matthew and Luke; to offer an uplifting message of hope and peace in a troubling world. This is an open invitation to the Men of our congregation to join us in a lively discussion in preparation for Christmas.  Read schedule hereFor further information, please contact Brian Hamilton( **NOTE we are meeting the first and third Tuesdays of the month for November)

We'll be viewing this classic film on Saturday, December 2, 1:30 pm, at the  Tivoli Theatre (off Main Street near the Downers Grove train station, 5021 Highland Ave.). The theater was built in 1928 to show "talkies" and has over 1,000 seats in its single auditorium-beautiful place-and you can go Christmas shopping before or after the movie at Yorktown or Oakbrook Center. Bring the family! We can get back to heavier movies in the bleak midwinter of January. Questions? Contact Alan Bayert.

Children's Christmas Eve Pageant
9:30 am in the Sanctuary

Every year on Christmas Eve, FCC's children perform the Christmas Pageant-the story of Jesus' birth. Children and youth Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to take part. This is a yearly event that participants and congregation members look forward to. There are costumes, music, readings and a whole lot of cute. Traditionally, this pageant takes place during our 4:00 Christmas Eve service, however this year since Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, it will take place at a single, 9:30 am worship service that day. Click here to read more about it, see rehearsal schedules and to sign up. Contact Director Caroline Andres.
