Time to Improve
Why do you belong to PRSA? In fact, why participate in any membership-based organization? For many of us, we are busier than ever, and staying on-top of our jobs is all in a day’s work. With so much social media, aren't we kind of social already? Skipping out mid-day, or leaving early in the morning to make a membership meeting can sometimes add stress. On many occasions as I rush from a client meeting to my PRSA membership meeting, I am thinking, "Aaargghh, this day is already so busy - why did I RSVP for this one?"
However, post meeting, I resoundingly think, "Wow, I met some great people today - so glad that I went!" Often times, I make connections with others, and I learn. In my early years of being an entrepreneur, I used to attend networking or educational group meetings, like PRSA, so that I could meet people and build my business.
Now, as a seasoned PR practitioner and business owner, I know that building relationships takes time. I may not make an immediate connection with someone who will become a client, but they could become a person that I refer to a friend or another business. What goes around comes around. In the end, through membership organizations like PRSA, I do end up making connections. More than that, I listen, and learn. I tap into the sentiment in the local business community. And, I grab tidbits of knowledge that I can use in being of service to other business owners.
When it's time to improve on myself and my business, PRSA is worth my time.
