Hometown Holidays
Before
we all realize it, the holidays will be here. Why not be a part of
the annual festivities in Garrard County? This year, our Square
will be decorated in the Williamsburg theme of the late 1700s.
Since Lancaster was founded in 1797, we felt it appropriate to
decorate in that time period to celebrate our origins and focus on
what Hometown Holidays mean to all of us. However, the Organizing
Committee still needs help from the community.
If
you are interested in putting together wreaths, there will be a
meeting this Saturday, at 9am in City Hall. The organizers are
gladly accepting discarded Christmas trees to be dismantled and
used for parts of the decor, as well as volunteers to help assemble
decorations and donations from businesses. Although the focus seems
to be in Lancaster, we encourage everyone in the County to join as
we celebrate this time of year.
The official "Lighting" will be December 3rd at 6:30pm. Prior to
that, the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce will host it's Second
Annual Chili Cook off at the First Southern Community Room. Be
putting together your winning recipe if you would like to compete.
If you're just interested in tasting the entries, stop by between
5:00pm and 6:15pm on the 3rd for free chili. Then just step across
the street to join in the countdown to "Lighting" and a visit from
Santa Claus.

Historical
Murals
This is
the first draft of 3 to 4 historical murals being planned for the
area behind the Grand Theatre in Lancaster. More things will be
added & a few things will be tweaked. This is representing the
Paint Lick area - Kennedy Plantation, Uncle Tom's cabin, Walker Fox
Hounds (my heritage), one of the first horse races in the area
& tobacco cutting. This wonderful painting was done by James
Crow, a famous equestrian artist, who is one of Garrard County's
treasures. We are raising funds for the murals through grants,
donations and in-kind resources.
