Hometown Christmas in
Lancaster
It's
time to Light of the Square!
This year, our Square will be decorated in the Williamsburg theme
of the late 1700s. Since Lancaster was founded in 1797, we felt it
appropriate to decorate in that time period to celebrate our
origins and focus on what Hometown Holidays mean to all of
us. Although
the focus seems to be in Lancaster, we encourage everyone in the
County to join as we celebrate this time of year.
The official "Lighting of the Tree" will be December 3rd at 6:30pm
at the Garrard County Courthouse. Prior to that, the Garrard County
Chamber of Commerce has a schedule of events to ring in the
season.
4pm to 6pm - Reception at EKU Higher Education Center. There will
be crafts for the kids and an opportunity to send cards to our
veterans and active military.
6pm - Join us for Carols on the Courthouse steps and countdown to
lighting of the tree.
6:30pm - Official Lighting of the Christmas Tree and Santa
Arrives! Children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa in
the courthouse.

Early
Thanksgiving
By Jean Turner
If you had driven
South on US 27 from Lancaster's town square at sunset last Friday
night, and looked to your right, you would have seen the historical
Governor William Owsley House all lit up for November's Third
Friday Community Get-Together, "An Early Thanksgiving
Party".
Upon entering, guests
were greeted by the aroma of spiced cider and the music of 20
dulcimers and a guitar, compliments of the Danville Dulcimers.
Docents, clad in period costumes, reminiscent of the mid-1800's,
were available to give tours and tell the history of each room,
while sharing anecdotes about the Owsley family.
Guests from Garrard
and surrounding counties brought a wide variety of finger foods and
dined at tables decorated in autumn fare, as they talked with
friends and neighbors and enjoyed the dulcimer concert.
The next Third
Friday Community Get-Together will be "A Victorian Christmas" on
December 17, at Hammonds Hall Bed and Breakfast, 216 West
Maple, Lancaster, KY. The evening will include carolers dressed in
Victorian costumes, violinists, a storyteller, a tour of the
B&B, built in 1900, and carriage rides provided by First
Southern National Bank.
Guests are invited to
dress in period costume and bring their favorite holiday treat or hors
d'oeuvre to share. All Third Friday events are free and run from
7:00 to 9:00 PM. A donation jar will be available to those who
would like to help defray expenses. Come help us celebrate "A
Victorian Christmas" at Hammonds Hall. For more information call
859-792-6632 or email to hammondshall@windstream.net.
