Playing with Natural Solutions
THURSDAY
Presented in partnership with Karen Warner of Spirit of the Waterfalls, this five week program aims to give children aged six to twelve a better connection to our natural world, through outdoor games, crafts, songs and music. $5.00 per child per week to cover supplies. Highlands Summer Theatre Presents 'Not Quite Sherlock'

Chris Gibbs' one man show plumbs the mind of London's second most famous detective, Not Quite Sherlock of course is based in Victoria England, but Gibbs who wrote the show, makes it a contemporary romp as well. With wit, charm, timing, and almost no respect for the rules of theatre, Chris Gibbs creates a simple, hilarious theatrical experience unlike any other.

Haliburton School of Art + Design performance - Katherine Wheatley (free) 5:30pm - 6:30pm

With offhand wit, vibrant lyrics and an infectious passion for performing, Katherine Wheatley has been captivating audiences everywhere she performs. According to the Toronto Star, she "turns pebbles of everyday life into dreamy mountains of song." It's an apt observation about this geologist-turned-songwriter. As she travels between shows on North America's highways, the landscape, as well as the characters she encounters on her travels, inspire her songs. She has an uncanny ability to take minor observations in life and find their soul. Warren Footz from SEE Magazine in Edmonton wrote "As a listener, it's hard not to sit back, close your eyes and watch the movie play. And man, can this serene red head ever play guitar."

Open Stage

Our unique musical series of concerts on the shore of Salerno Lake has been ongoing for eight years now. A family-friendly event featuring great live music right at the water's edge. Highlands Summer Theatre Presents 'Cliffhanger'

The James Yaffe thriller, Cliffhanger will leave the audience trying to guess 'who dun it' and surprised by the twists and turns in the plot as a philosophy professor attempts to salvage his reputation and avoid being charged for the murder of a colleague. Decoratively iced with touches of humour the play has won awards and plaudits around the globe.

Haliburton Rotary Music in the Park - Lunar Bloom

Lunar bloom is an all-female vocal trio comprised of Jocelyn Regina, Kelly McNamee and Brittany Robinson. They perform original material that celebrates and explores female voices in harmony with each other. Jocelyn, Kelly, and Brittany are long-time friends, having studied musical theatre together at Sheridan College. Each songwriters in their own right, they started collaborating together in 2017.
Admission by Donation, all proceeds to go to Rotary community service projects.

It's like a natural survival instinct. Sometimes without conscious assessment, people turn to the arts in the experience or aftermath of emotional or physical challenge. Why? Sometimes people simply live a creative life naturally, benefiting without the admission price of tragedy. How? Arguably, all are better for it. Scholars write about it; doctors prescribe it; survivors know it; and 'naturals' live it. Well being is enhanced through creativity. Sharing stories from her professional life as an art psychotherapist and hospice volunteer, as well as her recent personal journey navigating through cancer, Julie will shine a light on the cause, effect and power of creativity.

Bluegrass Festival

We have another exciting line up showcasing great Canadian talent and for our second year, an American band. We are featuring two headliners this year - Roxeen & Dalrymple from Nova Scotia, Canada and from Ohio, USA, Larry Efaw and The Bluegrass Mountaineers. Also featuring: Alicia Robicheau and Lonesome Sound, Big John, Concession 23, Ducharme Family Bluegrass, The Tebworth Brothers. We are growing and changing. The festival will be starting earlier on Friday the 20th at 2 pm and finish Saturday evening the 21st. Jam into the night and leave anytime Sunday at your leisure. There will be no performances on the Sunday. Want to miss the Sunday traffic? Camp over Sunday night and leave early Monday morning. For our early campers the Thursday Night Camp Jam and Band Scramble on the 19th will be hosted by Roxeen & Dalrymple from 7 to 9 pm. Why not arrive earlier in the week and relax before the festival begins. We offer additional camping starting Monday July the 16th through to Thursday the 19th and Sunday the 22nd at $10 per night

Jeep: Off Road 101 Weekend

Bat Box Building Workshop

Haliburton is home to the eight bat species found in Ontario. However, bat populations are declining due in most part to White Nose Syndrome, an invasive fungus. Bat boxes are easy to make and install and provide bats with alternative roost sites. Join us to assemble your own bat box from kits provided by the Land Trust and Abbey Gardens. Please register as there are a limited number of bat box kits for these workshop.

Backwoods Betty's Bushcraft Camp for Youth @ Abbey Gardens Wilderness School Outpost
MONDAY TO FRIDAY
July 23rd to 27th
Cost is $850 + HST per camper per session. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance due by May 30th, 2018. More detailed registration form will be sent upon receipt of deposit. For each of the four weeks that we are running our Bushcraft Camp, a small group of youth will have the opportunity to camp out and learn from the Deep Roots Adventure team. Activities will include camping, bushcraft, survival, navigation, fun and camaraderie! Girls and boy ages 12-16 are welcome to register for this overnight camp. If you have youth on either side of this age group, please contact us to inquire. All equipment and meals will be provided, with campers only needing to bring clothing and personal effects. Campers should arrive by 10 a.m. on Monday morning and can be picked up after 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
