Local Islamic Leader to Speak at St. Gregory's
Join us on May 29 at 11:15 a.m. for a special Interfaith Coffee Hour Discussion featuring Bassem Alhalabi, who will introduce our congregation to basic Islamic concepts - an Islam 101 course of sorts. He will also elaborate on current events and their relevance to Islam, specifically the negative framing of the beautiful religion of Islam, and discuss opportunities for Christians and Muslims to connect.

Dr. Alhalabi is a professor of engineering at Florida Atlantic University and a member of many professional and honor organizations. He is a founding member and the president of Islamic Center of Boca Raton. Dr. Alhalabi is also a member of Boca Raton Interfaith Clergy Association (along with our rector, Rev. Andrew Sherman) and an interfaith leader building bridges across our great South Florida communities.

Please mark your calendar now to take part in this very important interfaith conversation!
Workshop Will Focus on the Spirituality of the 12 Steps
On Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in June, St. Gregory's will hold a workshop, led by Mark Alpin, on how the 12 Steps promote a spiritual awakening, a stronger connection with God, and a path for continuous spiritual growth. This workshop is part of the Sabbatical Tasting Menu, and we hope you will join us!

About the Workshop
While the 12 Steps are often associated with recovery from harmful addictions, this workshop does not focus on that, and everyone is encouraged to attend. The 12 Steps are really about establishing, developing, and growing a relationship with God, one that empowers and provides purpose to life.  That is why they are such an effective treatment for addictions, as well as many of the other difficulties that we all experience. The 12 Steps are a design for living that works under all circumstances and in every arena of life. Practitioners of the 12 Steps often experience new-found happiness, freedom, and joy as a result.

These Wednesday evenings will provide a brief overview of all 12 Steps. If there is interest, some of us can discuss continuing a more detailed journey through the 12 Steps after the series concludes. Supporting texts are Richard Rohr's "Breathing Under Water," "Alcoholics Anonymous," and "Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions." There will be a few copies of these books available in the library, as well as a few for sale at the workshop. For more information, please contact Mark Alpin at [email protected]

Episcopal Congregations Engage in Politics
[Episcopal News Service]  Google the phrase "religion and politics" and in .52 seconds the search engine will suggest at least 140,000,000 internet entries.

Obviously, the mixture of the two strikes many a nerve and none more so than during a presidential election year.

Teach Summer Sunday School
Summer Sunday school begins June 12! We are asking people who do not already teach Sunday School to join us this summer.  Commit to teaching one or two Sundays or the whole summer. Don't have experience? Don't worry! All you need is an open heart and a love for children.

For more information, please call St. Gregory's at 561-395-8285.
Join the Audio/Visual Ministry at St. Gregory's
St. Gregory's is looking for a group of people to support our A/V Ministry. We are looking for motivated people to help out with setup and management of events needing sound. Some experience would be helpful, but is not required because we can provide training. Volunteers would be involved in running the mixer board, learning and managing the A/V rack in Harris Hall, and helping out with Livestreaming events.

We would like to have two teams of two to three people so we don't have to go to the same people all the time. Most of the support would be on weekends and some evenings. The teams would take direction from the Parish Administrator, Ron Knowlton. Please contact Ron if you are interested or would like more information.
Youth Invited to Kanuga
Rising seventh graders to graduating seniors are invited on the annual summer youth trip to Camp Kanuga in North Carolina June 19-24. The cost is $485, plus $150 for the bus. Scholarships are available through the diocese until May 31 and also through Kanuga. Youth are asked to sign up in advance so we know how large of a bus we need. To sign up or learn more, contact Pastor Angela at [email protected] or 561-395-8285.

The triune God is like a plant with its root, shoot, and fruit: deep, invisible root, green stem reaching into the world, and flower that opens to spread beauty and fragrance and to fructify the earth with its fruit and seed (Spirit). And it is all the one living plant. -- Elizabeth A. Johnson
