Do It In Durham is a collaborative series of events held during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). It is brought to you by local businesses and organizations who are already ‘Doing it in Durham!” and who want to share their expertise and experience with other entrepreneurs in the community.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship taking place in 160 countries. http://www.gew.co

Now in its 4th year, ‘Do It In Durham’ has become a major part of the business calendar in Durham Region. This year, from November 14 to 18, ‘Do it in Durham’ will bring together a series of partners who will host events for the benefit of Durham’s Entrepreneurial Community.

‘Do It In Durham’ will begin on November 10th with a flag raising in honour of Global Entrepreneurship Week, followed by BizFest – a showcase of all the support organizations that could help businesses to start and grow.

Canada & Ontario Invest to Renew Infrastructure at The University of Ontario Institute of Technology
The  University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s new Software and Informatics Research Centre (SIRC) will receive a $13 million investment from the federal and provincial governments. This joint federal-provincial investment was announced by Celina Caesar-Chavannes, Member of Parliament for Whitby and Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and by Granville Anderson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Durham.
The funding will support the Software and Informatics Research Centre (SIRC), which will act as a hub for research in health and business analytics, IT security, networking, gaming, and software engineering at UOIT. SIRC will promote interdisciplinary and experiential learning for students in computer science, IT and engineering. SIRC will also enable e-learning and more e-guest lectures and interactions with industries through innovative digital and conferencing technology. Of the $33.5 million investment, $11.8 million will come from the federal government and $1.2 million from the Government of Ontario. The university will fund the remainder of the building’s construction from its capital reserves, as well as with support from the university’s donors, alumni and benefactors in the business community. The funding from the Government of Canada is being allocated through the  Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, which will enhance and modernize research facilities on Canadian campuses and improve the environmental sustainability of these facilities.
