Volunteer Spotlight
We could not continue doing what we do without our volunteers. If you'd like to learn about volunteer opportunities at our libraries, please attend an information session on Friday, January 12, 3:00 - 4:30pm at the Downtown Library.

Learn more about one of our current volunteers!

Name: Elena H.

Which Library/work area do you volunteer in: I volunteer in two areas of the Downtown library: the Job Center and the Literacy Program.

Which Library/work area do you volunteer in: I volunteer in two areas of the Downtown library: the Job Center and the Literacy Program.

What types of things do you do for CPL: In the Job Center I help people with their job search by assisting them with their online job applications, helping them create resumes, offering interview advice and introducing them to other job-hunting skills and resources.  As a tutor in the Literacy Program, I help a small group of adult non-English speakers learn English using beginner-level curriculum provided by CPL.

How long have you volunteered for CPL: I've been a volunteer at CPL for a little over a year now.

What inspired you to volunteer at CPL: I had a desire to be helpful and productive volunteer work but wasn't sure where to start. I love books and so I had an idea that maybe I could help out at the public library. It wasn't until I attended a volunteer orientation there that I realized the library offered so many different volunteer opportunities.

What would you share about CPL with someone new to the area: Someone new to Chandler might like to know there are four libraries- which means there's one near them. And I would encourage them to check out the library's great resources for themselves and their kids.

What did you do before you started volunteering for CPL: I was in management and have taken a hiatus for the last few years to cultivate other interests.

Tell us something that will surprise us about you: I'm not sure how surprising it is but here's a little factoid that I'm proud of: I'm a 5th generation Arizona native.

What book(s) are you reading now: I belong to a book club and this month we're reading Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. I'm also reading Hallelujah Anyway by Anne Lamott.
