Volunteer Spotlight
|
|
We could not continue doing what we do without our volunteers. If you'd like to learn about volunteer opportunities at our libraries, please attend an
information session on Friday, January 13 or January 27, 3:00 - 4:30pm at the Downtown Library.
Name: Nancy Wolford
Which Library/work area do you volunteer in:
I work in the Job Center at the downtown branch and I, absolutely, love it. I get to meet new people and assist them in finding a job. Every day is new and interesting.
What types of things do you do for CPL:
We write resumes and cover letters for patrons and assist them in looking for jobs on the internet. Job hunting, today, is very different than it was 20 years ago.
How long have you volunteered for CPL:
I started volunteering for the library in 2011. When I first attended the orientation for volunteers, I didn't know the job center existed, but it was a perfect fit for me.
What inspired you to volunteer at CPL:
We live in a country of volunteers. I always planned to volunteer when I retired.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at CPL:
The best thing about volunteering at CPL is the people. I enjoy meeting the folks that make CPL such a great success. I, also, enjoy meeting the folks that come to the Job Center. Every day is different.
What is your favorite thing about CPL:
I love books. I like being around books and people who like them. Before I started volunteering, I went to the Chandler Public Library, regularly. I'm in a great book club that meets at the Hamilton branch.
What would you share about CPL with someone new to the area:
That libraries are no longer just about borrowing books. There are so many services that CPL provides.
What do you do before you started volunteering:
I was retired and taking care of my grandchildren. When my grandson started kindergarten, I thought it was time to start my volunteer career.
What are your interests/hobbies:
I still take care of my grandchildren after school. My husband and I ride recumbent bikes and, of course, I read.
Tell us something that will surprise us about you:
For a year and a half, I did standup comedy.
What book(s) are you reading now:
