Optimal Health Center of Santa Rosa
March 12, 2015

Hi... Thank you for taking the time to check out my newsletter. I know you must be busy, aren't we all. I wanted to fill you in on what's new in my world. Its pretty exciting. I have had my acupuncture practice up and running in Santa Rosa for the past two and a half years. I love what I am doing and I am passionate about helping people get out of pain, find emotional balance and cultivate optimum health.

During that time I have pursued and successfully completed a certificate in functional medicine from Functional Medicine University. I have invested countless hours researching the testing involved in uncovering the underlying cause of disease. I'm thrilled to be able to offer adrenal testing, hormone testing, stool testing, allergy testing and my favorite, the Organic Acid Test from Great Plains Laboratory.

Great Plains puts on a conference every year on Integrative Medicine and Mental Health. I was able to attend the one they had in San Antonio, Tx over my birthday weekend. Really, I couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate my birthday. My kind of fun is being in a room full of smart people talking about how to tackle emotional issues from the perspective of diet and lifestyle.

I also started my doctoral program in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at the University of East West Medicine in Sunnyvale. My focus is pain management and family medicine. Its great to be back in school again...

To celebrate my certificate in functional medicine and honor the work I'm doing in my doctoral program I would like to offer you a special opportunity to uncover some underlying issues that have been keeping you from achieving the level of health you dream of. I have put together an introductory program of functional medicine.

Please visit my page on Functional Medicine Testing

What you get is an hour and half evaluation with your full medical history, a report of findings, a recommendation for 1-4 functional medicine tests specifically for your presentation and another report of findings once the tests come in. The regular price for this is $500 I'm offering it to the first 10 people who reply for $300.  We can look at hormone balance, adrenal fatigue, thyroid function, microflora balance, GI function, detoxification pathways, micronutrient levels, food allergies, and more...  And with each of those two office visits you will get 20 min stress reduction treatment at no extra charge.

The Year of the Wood Goat...

With the new moon on Feb 18th we mark the end of the Year of the Horse and the beginning of the Year of the Goat. In Chinese astrology there are 12 animals with different characteristics, but there are also 5 elements, to add to the complexity, and then apply yin and yang to each and you have 120 flavors to season each year. This year is a Yin Wood Goat.  Wood is the element of Spring, the time of new beginnings. This year offers an opportunity for fresh starts and make overs. Time to renew and recover. The goat is a herd animal so there will be lots of connection and collaboration available with groups. Imagine visionary collaboration toward justice,  peace, harmony and beauty. Since the Goat rules art and esthetics, it is a great year to do some Feng Shui, which I'm excited to be offering again. click here for more information on Feng Shui services. Relaxation Corner...

For many people the last few years have been really hard.According to Ming, this year is a time for healing. One of the most important things I offer people is a place to relax and be supported in their healing process. With such levels of stress so many of us are experiencing these days it is important to turn off the sympathetic nervous system and turn on the parasympathetic nervous system (think "S" for stress, and "P" for peace). One of my favorite acupuncture points that I use in almost every session is the parasympathetic point on the ear. Its like a reset button for the nervous system.

A couple of other ways to calm the nervous system are yoga and qi gong. I have recently reconnected with my yoga buddies on Thurs nights in Sebastopol for an hour and a half of Restorative Yoga with Devorah Blum at Yoga Studio Ganesha. The class is from 7:00-8:30 and is like a jump start on the weekend. Lots of lying around and breathing, really low key, and jokes... because laughter is really good medicine. http://www.yogastudioganesha.com/index.htm

Acupuncture works by treating the whole body and addressing the underlying causes of aging and disease.

I would love the opportunity to introduce you to my work. I'm offering mini stress reduction treatments on Fridays. The treatments are only 30 mins long and require no diagnosis. I use just two tiny needles, one in each ear. They are focused on reducing stress and restoring balance to your nervous system. Depending on the time of day, you will leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day, or relaxed and ready to unwind.  I have a beautiful space downtown, easy to get to from the freeway with free parking. Send me an email to book your Friday time slot.

I hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,

Debra Gorman
