A HEART, A ROCK OR A REMINDER?
Subtle reminders are everywhere . . . even in Guatemala
Sometimes we get so lost in what we're doing that we forget to slow down and just look at where we are. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when we get so busy being busy (even doing good things) we can miss the little reminders along the way. While building chicken coops, installing water filtration systems and giving out clothes and shoes at Pueblo Modelo; this "heart" was found when one of our team members looked down at the road under their feet.  This silent little rock held a special message that spoke very powerfully. It reminded them that the love you have in your heart was placed there to give away - not caring who the recipient is . . .never judging . . . always giving . . . always loving. Let that love guide your life and don't forget to slow down, you never know what reminder is there waiting for you.

The container arrived in Guatemala the week of July 14. As we unpack the container, we can't begin to even try to tell you how many lives will be so greatly impacted by all of this. We are so grateful for all of you who donated these items, gave of your time to pack the container as well as those who financially helped to send this container. This wouldn't be possible without all of you!
School Sponsorship Pool Party
On June 8, HIM hosted a pool party at a local water park for the children in our Child Sponsorship Program in Guatemala.  This was a special day rewarding them for all their hard work during the school year. They enjoyed a fried chicken lunch, songs, entertainment, 2 hours of pool time, an enormous cake, 3 pinatas, many awards and surprises. Their faces were beaming with smiles as they enjoyed this special day. A huge thank you to all of you have are participating in this program by sponsoring a child. This is the first time ever that every child has a sponsor!
Indiana University Northwest
After returning from their trip to Guatemala, the nursing students of IUN very enthusiastically volunteered at our office to help sort and pack medical supplies that will be sent to Guatemala. They were so fun to be around as we listened to them share their special moments from their trip. We would like to thank Professor Jennifer Szabo and Professor Donna Krause  for making this trip possible and we look forward to many years in partnership with IUN.
Little Brothers Friends Of The Elderly Visit
We were so excited to welcome Jacqueline Townsend and four of her clients from Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly NW Indiana branch to our Cafe in our Resale Shoppe. We had a great time getting to know them as we listened to their stories from "back in the day when . . . ". A lot of wisdom was revealed and received from these seasoned Seniors! Little Brothers is an outreach program for elderly citizens that live alone. Volunteers are paired with these elderly to organize monthly and weekly outings where the elderly can have the opportunity to socialize with others.
