May 2017
  MESSAGE FROM THE NEW
MARC NAHRO PRESIDENT

Greetings!
I want to take this opportunity to advise all MARC NAHRO members that former president David Allen Brown submitted his resignation to the Executive Board on May 5, 2017, effective immediately.   As the senior vice president, I assumed the presidency, in accordance with the region’s bylaws.  In a subsequent teleconference, the executive board elected  treasurer John Mahon as the regional senior vice president and Diane Haislip  as the new treasurer.   John is executive director, Housing Authority of the city of Bayonne.  Diane is deputy director, Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County.  Congratulations to my regional colleagues!

I thought it befitting to adopt the conference theme, One Hope, One Mission, One Voice… as the theme of my presidency – as this is the surest way for MARC NAHRO to continue to grow and sustain itself.  We have the tools and talent within our region to accomplish great things, by working together!  Our collective efforts will produce much greater results than any individual endeavors.   As we move forward, I hope you will work with me.  Take the first step by completing and submitting the volunteer to serve form (details are below).   Together we can make it happen!

AND SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
As announced last fall, the region’s Executive Board approved the establishment of a regional scholarship in memory of four MARC NAHRO pioneers whose illustrious careers as public servants, teachers and mentors profoundly impacted the region and hundreds of industry professionals.

The scholarship will fund tuition and/or certification examination fees for NAHRO Professional Development offerings.  MARC NAHRO members who are commissioners and/or trustees and employees of housing and community development agencies may apply for a scholarship.

We seek to award annually two $1,000 scholarships and a number of smaller scholarships when we reach our fundraising goal of $4,000.  We will exceed this goal if each MARC NAHRO member makes a modest donation, which is tax deductible.
