Latino Art Fair
Overture Center for the Arts

For the fourth year, local Latin@ artists will exhibit their work. The fair is an initiative to showcase the richness of the Latino culture in South Central Wisconsin and engage our community in celebrating our affinity for the arts. The fair will be held at the Overture Center for the Arts. The event will be free and open to the public. Artists will be exhibiting and selling their works in various mediums, including: painting, prints, photographs, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, textiles/fiber, and fine crafts, among others. The Latino Art Fair is organized and sponsored by the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County with the support of Overture Center for the Arts, Centro Hispano, and the Latino Professionals Association.

Created 12 years ago, this fundraising event combines the love for salsa dancing and the commitment and generosity of our community. This event helps to maintain, strengthen and support the high level of service of The Rainbow Project. The Rainbow Project provides evidence-based crisis & ongoing treatment for young children and their families who have experienced trauma: child abuse, child sexual abuse, neglect, community violence and domestic violence. The event features a very diverse crowd; it is a time when the business sector, government officials, the community and "salseros" all come together for a night of dancing and fun while raising money for a good cause.   Learn more

Fiesta Hispana is an outdoor festival on Sunday, September 25th from 10am - 4pm  filled with music, traditional dancing, kids' activities, games, prizes and delicious local Latino cuisine! This is  a free family event open to everyone. Activities will be in Centro Hispano's back lot, off of Hughes Place.  More info

YWCA Racial Justice Summit

Each year, the YWCA Madison hosts a Racial Justice Summit that brings together community stakeholders to work on eliminating barriers that foster racism in our community. The Summit focuses on institutional racism and involves nationally-known keynote speakers and researchers, as well as local experts and advocates. Through an environment that encourages learning from and supporting each other in our common goals, the Summit provides a platform for action planning and community dialogue. During this election year, they will be talking about the stories we tell around race and how they can be used to divide us or to bring us together. Keynote presenters include Rinku Sen and Vernā Myers. More info

The morning workshop sessions will focus on neighborhood activities, projects, and best practices. The afternoon session will focus on economic, parks, and transportation issues. 2015 Latino Art Fair Winner Leticia Castillo Opens with "Legends of Mexico City" Exhibit

Leticia Castillo, winner of the 2015 Latino Art Fair, recently opened her exhibit of her paintings titled "Legends of Mexico City" in the Overture Center Rotunda Lobby. The exhibit runs through October 16th. An artist reception of her exhibit coincides with the Latino Art Fair on October 7th from 5 pm - 9pm.
