Judges selected to hear hopeful students pitch their business plans
The names of the judges for the 2012 HCC Newspring Business plan Competition have been announced. 2012 Business Plan Competition judges include Jack Barry, retired CEO, author and consultant, and member of the Newspring Business Council; Gerald Bennett, board member and former Chairman, Memorial Hermann Health System; Trudy Nix, Senior Vice President, Bank of America; Gary Olander, President, Sovereign Bank Houston; Larry Pulliam, Group President and Executive Vice President, Sysco Foods; and Jay Sears, Co-founder and Principal, Newquest Properties. Students experience European 'bon voyage'
Twenty-two HCC students, faculty and community members embarked on a 12-day guided, educational tour of Western Europe. Students enrolled in HCC course IBUS1391, Special Topics in International Business, earned three credit hours. Parent Academy demystifies college enrollment process
Nearly one hundred parents of college bound students from West Houston have attended the HCC Parent Academy. The academy, funded by the Kresge Foundation, offers parents of dual credit and other college bound students access to information which is helpful for the transition from high school to college. Tom Haymes, HCC director of technology and instructional computing at HCC, has been named to the New Media Consortium (NMC) Horizon Report Higher Education Advisory Board for the second year in a row. Of the 45 members selected to serve on the international board, Haymes is the sole representative from a community college. Read more... |
Students to conduct summer research
The HCC West Houston Center for Science and Engineering (WHC) granted four HCC students and DHS Scholars, Nicholas Richardson, Delisia Price, Teresa Chambers and Zak Payne, a travel opportunity to Sandia National Laboratory (SNL), New Mexico. As DHS scholars, the students journeyed to SNL to begin preparation for their 2012 summer research projects which will occur at the facility. This opportunity is possible because of an award from the Department of Homeland Security. Read more... |
HCC faculty wins national award for techy television show
Explaining today's fast-paced, innovative technology to the average person is a challenging endeavor. It's a feat that has earned Houston Community College Northwest Computer Science Professor Sean Otmishi an AVA Award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). Otmishi received the organization's highly accomplished platinum award for "Innovative Technology", a show he hosts on HCCTV with fellow technology aficionado, Koohyar Hasani. HCC hosts star-studded music showcase, music industry conference
The 5th Annual HCC Student Talent Showcase and "8X10" Music Industry Conference was a rousing success at HCC Spring Branch campus April 13 and 14. Some of the brightest stars, including surprise guests, and some of the most distinguished executives in the music industry judged the student showcase and presented at the conference. The showcase and concert were presented by the HCC Northwest Fine Arts and Commercial Music Division and the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA), advised by music business faculty Dr. Aubrey Tucker and Jennifer Hawkins.
