Dear Neighbor,

Since our last project update there has been very little visible development on the Fields Point property, but quite a bit has transpired at the regulatory review level on our proposed liquefaction facility
Project milestones

Chief among those regulatory reviews was the analysis of potential environmental impacts of the project by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff. On June 25, 2018 the FERC staff issued its Environmental Assessment (EA), finding that, with the mitigation proposed, the proposed project would not have a significant environmental impact, and that the preliminary engineering designs formed the basis for a safe project. The FERC Commissioners will issue a certificate order, followed by a more detailed review of the final project engineering by the FERC staff before we can begin construction of the liquefaction facility.

Additionally, much of the local and state permitting process has been completed. Hearings were completed in December for the CRMC federal consistency review. CRMC found that the project is consistent with the enforceable policies that it considers. On October 27, 2017 RIDEM issued its Short Term Response Action Approval Letter.

Why the project is important

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has safely played a vital role in providing a reliable source of natural gas for our customers in New England, particularly in winter months when demand for natural gas is greatest. On the coldest winter days, when demand is at its peak, LNG can provide up to 40% of the gas supply for National Grid’s customers in New England. That is why this project is so important to the energy mix here in the northeast. In fact on the coldest days that occurred this past winter, the Fields Point facility provided as much as 52% of supply to the greater Providence region.
