How Does the GDPR Affect Us?
Understanding the new General Data Protection Regulation
As of 25 May 2018, a new European Union (EU) privacy regulation, short form — GDPR — goes into effect. EU citizens will need to give consent for organizations to store their email address and name for receiving communications. Those who have been receiving SIL International Publications periodic communications in the past include citizens of the EU which we will accept as your consent to continue receiving these communications .

If you do not wish to receive communications from SIL International Publications, please click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of this newsletter. Please note that if you are receiving product or license communication related to your SIL.org account with us, you will still receive communications specific to your connection with us.

Expect to see a link to a new SIL International Communications Privacy Statement in time to come.
• Inventory Clearance •
Last chance to acquire books at this low cost!
SIL International Publications has moved to a “zero inventory” policy. The cost of inventory, space and lack of staff (see the next story about volunteer opportunities) have contributed to this change in philosophy as well as the desire to steward donations well. We are gradually submitting the remaining titles that we have been distributing from our office in Dallas to our print on demand (POD) vendor to be distributed through Amazon and others globally. To complete this process, we are having an inventory clearance sale this month on some titles for which we have a small quantity on site. This is your last chance to save big buying directly from us. Titles will continue to be available at full retail price through Amazon.com.

Help Wanted!
Do you have 4 or more hours a week that you might volunteer to help Global Publishing Services?
GPS’s SIL International Publications, could use some help, even in small quantities. We have several somewhat short-term projects we can’t get to due to lack of people. They all require basic computer knowledge, with a short learning curve to:
  • scan and file contract backlog
  • add files to an existing REAP record
  • and other tasks

In future newsletters, we will highlight other GPS staff and volunteer needs.
A Cautionary Tale
What academics and publishers need to know
The title is FBI Indicts Nine Iranians in a Massive Scheme to Target Academic Credentials and Steal Content. You can find it on Scholarly Kitchen here: https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2018/03/28/51123/

It could be worth your time to search for your articles and books to see where they might show up and talk with your institution about server security and your part in keeping your academic credentials secure.
