REAA NEWSLETTER
A newsletter to keep you informed about what's "up with arts."

Letter from the BOD President:
Dear Members and Friends,

March certainly came in like a Lion this year!  It was hard to get into the mood for Spring with all of the snow!  But despite the bad weather, the REAA hosted some wonderful events this past month.  We'd like to thank everyone who came out to hear Banish Misfortune at the last concert in our 2018 Winter Concert Series.  Special thanks to Main Street Bank and all of our other concert sponsors!  We are already looking to plan another concert series next year.

We also kicked off a new A Cappella singing group on March 14.  We also opened our latest Art in the Hall exhibit in March.

In April, the River's Edge Chorale will begin rehearsals to prepare for our annual Artist Appreciation concert in June.  Members of the River's Edge Players are also rehearsing in preparation for our "Theater for Young Audiences" offering at the end of the month.

We hope that the warm weather will entice you to come out of your homes and attend some of our programs and events this month.  Read on for all of the details...

Warm Regards,
Lisa Schliker -  REAA BOD President

Important Announcement

On behalf of the REAA BOD, I would like to share the following Press Release with our members and friends:

Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Debra Vanderwerf, will be stepping down from her position and begin serving as a consultant to the arts alliance as of June 1st. Ms. Vanderwerf will be moving out of state with her husband, who has accepted a new job in Arizona.  "The arts alliance is in a strong position as an arts provider, resource, and advocate in the region", states Ms. Vanderwerf, "I am confident our board of directors will find the next leader to oversee our thriving portfolio of programs". During her 8 month tenure, Ms. Vanderwerf has increased organizational capacity for the arts alliance through new and expanded programming, increased membership and visibility, secured funding and sponsorships, and strengthened community partnerships.  In addition to serving in a leadership capacity at River's Edge, Ms. Vanderwerf also serves as Chair of Hudson's Downtown Business Improvement District's Arts and Culture Committee. "It's been a pleasure working with the amazing artists, cultural organizations, and businesses in our community and using the arts as a vehicle to economic vitality in Hudson and surrounding communities", states Ms. Vanderwerf. She will continue to serve as consultant and grant manager for the arts alliance.

"Debra has been an amazing part of our team since she joined us last summer", states Board of Director President Lisa Schliker, "While we are sad to see her go in her current capacity as CAO, she has helped to make our organization even stronger."  Ms. Schliker adds, "Her love for the arts and her knowledge of the non-profit sector was the perfect fit for our organization. We are glad that Debra will continue to serve as a consultant when she moves out of state."

Summer Musical Update:

Over the past month, we have been working to find a venue for our annual Summer Musical.  There are a lot of factors that go into finding a venue including pricing, availability, and quality of the venue.  Trying to find a place for the summer months has additional challenges.
We are looking into some other options, including the option of moving the show to September.  We hope to secure a location and announce more details shortly.
