Our Work: Green before Green was Cool

It is easy to say sustainability is an essential component of good design. But what does that really mean? It is more than just adding a few solar panels to a building, or installing some recycled carpet. We believe sustainable design is a careful balance between client need, community, and the environment. It is about finding the right solution and discussing the impact of choices we make. For over fifty years CGD has helped our clients incorporate sustainable solutions that address their needs. Whether energy efficiency, conservation, durability, or building certification is your priority, we have the leadership and experience to guide you through the process and find the solution that is right for you.

Sustainability is in our DNA. During the energy crisis of the 1970s, our founders designed our office as an earth-sheltered building. Optimistic about the future, the firm principals designed the structure so that as more space was needed, the earth could be removed and a second floor constructed. The light-filled second floor is a great home for CGD's collaborative work environment. Most people are alarmed, yet intrigued to see and hear the Greenville Zoo's lions from some of the second floor workspaces.

Interior Designer

Upon meeting Kylie, one can sense both the professionalism and creative spirit that she possesses. For the past eleven years, Kylie has developed unique interior concepts, colorful and textural patterns, innovative signage packages and creative furniture selections. With an easy smile and charming personality she is an instant favorite with clients.

As the mother of three active boys, ages nine, seven and five, Kylie has learned both discipline and patience. She has the discipline to balance her professional life and to be a great mother. To control the boundless energy of her children, she has developed patience beyond measure. No matter the circumstance, the University of Georgia graduate never seems ruffled. CGD is blessed to have Kylie, and her husband Jake, and children Oliver, Beckett and Asher as part of our family.

CGD Family Helps Others

As part of our vision, Craig Gaulden Davis carefully balances personal, institutional, and civic goals to help organizations and individuals strengthen the communities they serve. The team of talented professionals at CGD is blessed to be able to experience and enjoy the buildings we designed that have fortified the fabric of our community. We feel a responsibility to apply our talents to strengthen our community. During the Christmas season, the firm and its employees provide gifts to a less fortunate family. We collectively purchase the gifts and wrap them with love. While we are not able to see the families open their gifts, our hearts are warmer knowing that we are able to make the holiday special for other families.

Swiger Named to Leadership Position in AIA

Aaron Swiger has been named as Associate Representative for the Greenville Section of the American Institute of Architects. As the Associate Rep, Aaron will coordinate events for members seeking registration. Aaron received his Master of Architecture degree from Clemson University in 2011. He joined Craig Gaulden Davis in early 2013 after working for a few years in Atlanta. Since arriving in Greenville, Aaron has taken on several new roles and responsibilities. He and his wife Caroline are renovating a house and this summer they welcomed their first child, a beautiful daughter named Hazel.

On the Boards: New Library for Limestone College

For many decades, the firm has designed churches, libraries, government buildings and arts facilities for the city of Gaffney, SC. These projects have helped establish a strong sense of community pride among its citizens. Recently, the firm has been working with Limestone College to consider a number of design initiatives to enhance and improve facilities on the campus as the college intentionally expands its stature as a high-quality institution of higher learning.

As an extension of a number of studies to improve the efficiency and modernize the existing library, the firm has been commissioned to design a new state-of-the-art library to meet the needs of 21st century students at this private liberal arts college. The new building will occupy a prominent location near the primary entrance to campus and enhance the campus green with a modern building that provides a respectful, yet transparent fa�ade that blends with the various styles of architecture found on the campus. Inside, the building will feature ample collaborative work areas for students with new technologies to complement the traditional offerings of the intellectual center of campus. Additionally, the building will include student lounges, a caf�, a gallery, computer classrooms, general classrooms, a writing lab and a math lab.
