Pride Center Hires New Executive Director
|
PRIDE CENTER OF VERMONT APPOINTS
SUSAN HARTMAN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Burlington, VT.
Pride Center of Vermont is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan L. Hartman as Executive Director effective May 1, 2017. Susan comes to the Pride Center from Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was most recently Executive Director of The Art Experience Inc., an organization that promotes healing and growth through expressive arts. Susan also served as Executive Director of the Northwest Arkansas Center for Equality, Director of Crisis Services for the Arkansas Crisis Center, Executive Director of Therapetics Service Dogs of Oklahoma, Food & Fund Drive Manager for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Director of Development for the North Arkansas Council of Girl Scouts of America, Executive Director of the NWA Rape Crisis Center and Manager of Volunteer Program & Communications for the Project for Victims of Family Violence in Fayetteville.
In addition to her 30 years working in non-profit leadership, Susan has also generously volunteered her time to other organizations in northwest Arkansas and Oklahoma. Most notably, she served as campaign chair for the United Way of Benton County and as a crisis counselor for the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Intervention Center. She delivered programs across the state for the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence and served on the Boards of Oklahomans for Equality and PFLAG or Northwest Arkansas.
When asked what attracted her most to the Pride Center in Burlington, Susan said she "
was initially drawn to the beauty and soul of Burlington and was inspired by the work of the Center" but upon her visit she "simply fell in love with the City and the organization". She is "excited to work with
such smart and dedicated staff, board members and volunteers".
We hope community members will attend our Annual Celebration and Auction at ECHO on May 5th, and take that opportunity to welcome Susan to the Pride Center and to Vermont. We also encourage community members to stop by the Center in May to get to know our new Executive Director.

19th Annual Community Awards and Celebration, Friday, May 5th at Echo

Our 19th annual Community Celebration is a month away and we are getting excited to bring everyone together and celebrate the richness that is the LGBTQA community.
This year's award community awards are be given to a very diverse group of LGBTQ supporters. Volunteers of the Year are Rex and Karen Butt who have been cornerstones of the trans support groups the Center runs for families and friends of trans people. Zazt & Renfrew, a lobbying firm in Montpelier, are the winners of the activists of the year for the dedication to LGBTQ issues getting passed in the Statehouse. And the business of the year goes to Green Mountain Cabaret for their unwavering support of the Center.

LifePlus
This social support group provides a safe, confidential space for HIV+ individuals to gather and share their experiences and advice on living with the virus. Group participants come together to talk, connect, and find support around a number of issues including coping with stigma, disclosure, and dealing with health care providers.

As our name suggests, we are people with adult loved ones who are transgender or gender-nonconforming. We meet on the second
Thursday

Trans Support Group
First Tues and Third Wednesday of each month 6:30 p.m. This peer-led, informal group is open to all trans people and to any discussion topics raised. It is a respectful and confidential space for socializing, support, and discussion.

Trans and GNC
The Trans & GNC Community Project planning meeting is held on every 2nd and 4th
Weds
at the PCVT. During the meetings we will continue to develop events and work on community outreach, plan events, and coordinate Trans Town Halls. We are always happy to meet new folks and to see returning faces. Trans & GNC Community Project is a trans centered space, but we also welcome allies, family, and committed community members to this next meeting.
