The Word This Sunday
August 12, 2018
Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus says that the bread he gives for the life of the world is his flesh, and whoever eats this bread has eternal life now and will be raised on the last day. In Ephesians Paul tells us what this life Jesus gives us looks like, this life we live as those marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit in baptism. We live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us. The whole purpose of life is giving yourself for the other.

Pastor Monica's
60-Second Sermon
"In three months' time, we'll begin to make Thanksgiving preparations! Holiday feasts require plenty of planning: the menu, the guest list, the table setting, the wine, the pies and desserts, plus asking someone to pray over the food. But after all the planning and feasting, in a few hours' time, our tummies growl, empty again, ready to be filled. Jesus knows our human hunger; in the first-century, as Jesus roamed the Middle East teaching and preaching, 90% of the population starved. But Jesus promises us that if we will heed his teachings and accept him as the true Bread of Life, we will never be hungry again. Jesus gives himself as bread for the world, sacrificing his life on the cross so that God will forgive all people, for Jesus' sake. Thanks be to God for Jesus, our Living Bread from Heaven."
John 6:35; 41-51

Peace to all,   Pastor Monica
New Gals of Epiphany (GOE) Study in September

Beginning September 8, we will begin a new study of The Red Tent and the Book of Genesis Chapters 29-35.For this study, you will need 2 books: The Red Tent ( order here ) and Inside the Red Tent by Dr. Sandra Polaski ( order here ). You may purchase the paperback or Kindle editions; the paperback edition will be used by Pastor Monica to lead the study. Total for both books is $31, and there is a small scholarship fund for anyone in need of financial aid.
Thank You and Welcome!

A HUGE thank you to Prannoy & Praharsh Lankapalli (pictured here with Pastor Monica, DEM Wayne Fell and Wendell Kruse) for sharing their musical gifts with us this summer, playing preludes, offertories, hymns and operating the speaker system while Epiphany was without an accompanist.

And a very warm welcome to Hector De Graft Johnson, who will serve as our accompanist beginning on Sunday!
