This has been the most pleasant summer weather I can ever remember in Maryland.  I hope you are enjoying yours as much as I am.

In this issue:
  • Progress on the Monet Rya design--2 lessons
  • CBS Sunday Morning -- Maine Woods Discovery
  • Hot August Music Fest--Saturday, 8/16-- Last day for Tax-free clothing purchases for 2014
  • Solo Art Show at Birdie's Cafe

Mini-Lesson #1
in Monet Rya Process
Preparing the backing and sizing the graph paper
Cutting the backing to requested length.
First thing you have to do is decide what size backing you want.  Bill decided to go with a 4' tall by 6' wide backing for his Monet's Bridge design.  This is what I did to make that happen... Click to see pictures and blog of that process

Mini-Lesson #2
in Monet Rya Process
Graphing the Design
Next we make an abstract watercolor painting of the image to be knotted into the rya rug.
painting the general feel of the Monet painting onto the special graph paper  See more of this process on my blog post, by clicking here.  Next month, see the conclusion of lessons in this technique of preparing a design for knotting.  Oh, and did I mention that Bill is going to do all the knotting?  That's how it works, folks.  ;-)

Solo Art Exhibition:
Byrdcall at Birdie's Cafe Coffee House

Mark your calendars for Friday, Sept. 5th for an evening Artist Reception (party) at Birdie's Cafe at 233 E. Main Street in Westminster, MD.  I will be showing some familiar original works as well as many lesser know pieces.  And frankly, lately I have been in need of wall space in the studio, so you may find some real bargains just so I can start creating more work to replace earlier pieces with NEW.  For exact times and duration of exhibition, read my September newsletter.

Want to Hear some Great
 Music this Saturday?
August 16, come to Hot August Music Festival at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, MD.
Last year at Hot August, Corey Henry of Galactic bought one of my shirts and performed in it!
It used to be called Hot August Blues, but the name was changed because some of the hot music isn't technically blues, but it is all HOT and awesome. This will be my 15th year (that is a guess) displaying my work here for sale.  These are my peeps.  I'd love to see you there.  Wear a "Melinda Byrd" shirt and buy another one for 20% off!  Just say, "I read your newsletter."  Click here to see the line-up and details.

Did You See it?
CBS Sunday Morning

Last month, I told you that the Thoreau Story would be aired on, July 13.  But that morning I found out from the Maine Woods Discovery group that they had just learned it was rescheduled for two weeks later, July 27.  The following week, July 20, I was casually watching Sunday Morning when I heard them saying, "Now, we take you to Maine to follow the 150th anniversary trek of Henry David Thoreau."  So they broadcast it a week earlier than expected.  I posted the changes on my Byrdcall Studio Facebook page, but I know a lot of you don't see that. Sorry if you were inconvenienced.  Click here to see my Byrdcall Studio Facebook page and click on "Like" for updates.

Byrdcall Studio was an art-contributing sponsor of the Thoreau-Wabanki 150th Anniversary Tour.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here to see the story.

And THANK you for reading all the way to the end!

As always, I love receiving your comments.  Let me know what you'd like to see more or less of.
Enjoy the summer...I know I am.

Cheers!
