Welcome to WOW's bi-monthly newsletter!  WOW is the Woodbury Library, Parks and Recreation Department and Senior Center's collaborative effort to bring FREE programs to Woodbury for people of all age's enjoyment.  You can find more information on these programs and all WOW programs at www.woodburyct.org. Please note that all events will be held a the Woodbury Senior Center unless otherwise specified.

WOW Presents FREE: Summer Concert Series
All concerts will start at 6:30 pm in Hollow Park, Woodbury
Bring a chair or a blanket down to Hollow Park, with a picnic and enjoy a summer evening with your neighbors and friends.  Enjoy the music, let the children dance and play, a perfect way to relax and enjoy the summer!

Summer Musical Movie Series with Instructor Penny O'Connell

A classic musical will be shown at the Senior Center  on the big screen each Wednesday in July.  Penny will present a short  "behind the scenes" lecture before each movie, and a group discussion follows.  Bring a bag lunch if you like!  Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 pm.

Learn how to make a cinnamon coffee or lemon scrub  (your choice) and a gorgeous necklace made from the fluff of a dandelion.  Ehris Urban leads the two programs.
"A Woman's Reason: Two Gentlemen of Verona"

The Two Gentlemen of Verona director will present "A Woman's Reason," a discussion of her selection and direction of that Shakespeare comedy for the Summer of 2016.  Emily Mattina, Shakesperience's Artistic Director and the State of Connecticut's 2015 Elizabeth Mahaffee Arts Administration Fellow, will introduce the themes of the production.  Ms. Mattina will share her exploration of social constructs, including when Friendship and Romantic Love are in conflict for Two Gentlemen of Verona.  Join us as she presents her concept and approach to mounting this Shakespeare adaptation filled with art, doppelgängers, dogs, and the scenery and music of a fairground.

Two gentlemen, best friends since youth, part ways in Verona as one leaves for Milan. In time, both fall in love with the same girl in Milan, leaving a jilted girlfriend from Verona to follow them in disguise. Music, unrequited love, requited love, friendship, fools, and dogs, this Shakespeare classic comedy has it all!

Be a part of the WPL's first ever mini golf event in the stacks!  A variety of Dewey decimal inspired obstacles will lead players on a fun putting adventure through the stacks, but please yield to book browsers. Groups can be no larger than 4 in a party, and the program is first come, first served. Drop in and play.

The Walking Game: Tennis for a Lifetime with instructor Frank Adams at the Senior Center

Tennis can be a game we play for a lifetime. Trainer and author of "The Unconscious Athlete", local resident Frank Adams leads a class in using your instincts to play the way nature intended.  Staying active  while we age does not have to mean running ourselves into the ground with sore shoulders and elbows, and aching knees.  Come learn how; bring a racket.  Classes every Tuesday beginning July 5 from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

90 and Better Luncheon

This special luncheon is a toast to those who've lived from the roaring 20s until the information age!  The event is FREE for our honored guests, age 90 and better ( others of all ages may attend for a modest fee of $5). This special day will include visual highlights of the last century,  a full catered luncheon and live entertainment by The Elderly Brothers, a funny and very enjoyable musical duo. Plan now to attend, and call the Woodbury Senior Center to reserve your seat at (203) 263-2828.    If you cannot attend, but know a Woodbury resident age 90 or better who should receive a special invitation, please contact the Senior Center at [email protected] .  Thank you!
