Your safe driving policy has a face

At Threads of Life, the greatest risk our own employees face is driving. It's the same for many workplaces - whether the road hazards are part of their job description or only part of their commute. We all get so focused on our own schedule and daily challenges that we forget about our own safety and the safety of others on the road. Liz Stewart lives every day with the result of someone's moment of inattention. Her daughter Terri Lynn was 19, working as a flag person for the summer when she was struck and killed by a chain-reaction collision. "There is not one day that has passed by that I don't think of her," Liz says. Share Liz's story with your workforce - it's a powerful reminder of the "why" behind your safe driving policy.
Your logo on Steps for Life t-shirts? Last week to make it happen!

The first weekend of May 2018, Steps for Life - Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy will be taking place in 30 communities across Canada.  Demonstrate your company's dedication to workplace safety as a sponsor for Steps for Life.  We have various levels of sponsorship, and you can choose the one that best fits your budget and goals. Your sponsorship helps families of workplace tragedy through our various support programs, as well as helping to raise awareness about workplace health and safety.  To have your logo printed on the official event T-shirts, your sponsorship must be finalized the first week of March.
Making healing affordable for everyone

We would never want finances to pose a barrier to someone struggling in the aftermath of a work-related fatality, serious injury or occupational disease. Threads of Life's amazing partners and donors ensure that we can offer services like our volunteer family guides and attendance at family forums for free. Workplace Safety North (WSN), one of Ontario's four sector-based health and safety associations, is helping to make that happen by becoming a supporter of the annual Central Family Forum. WSN joins a number of other dedicated organizations who are helping to bring healing within reach of everyone in Canada.
Speakers help you make the difference

There's a lot of buzz around health and safety in the spring, and that makes it an ideal time to take your workplace safety culture to a new level. April and May are the busiest months for the Threads of Life speakers bureau. Do all those companies and event organizers know something that you don't? A true story from a Threads of Life speaker reinforces the "why" behind the procedures and practices you talk about every day.  Read about the difference our speakers have made for some of the companies where they've shared their stories.
Go the distance!

Doing good is good for us. And doing good as a team is good for morale. Turn your next employee event into a fundraiser for Threads of Life families. Here's an idea from our Partnerships and Fundraising staff:

Are you participating in a marathon? Ask you friends, family, co-workers, even local businesses to sponsor you. You will not just be running, you'll be running for a cause, Threads of Life.

Diana Devine has been running in the Ottawa Marathon for more than 10 years, in memory of her dad Rico, and to benefit Threads of Life. Support Diana's 2018 run, or think about dedicating your own run to Threads of Life!
