Locally Grown is a summer-long series of FREE live concerts and movies on THURSDAY evenings on the Wallace Plaza, atop the Wallace Parking Deck at 150 E. Rosemary Street. Now in it's fourth year, this summer's lineup includes three concerts of nationally-known but locally-based music acts as well as six family-friendly films. Locally Grown kicks off with a concert on Thursday, June 23 at 6:00 PM with Mandolin Orange and Big Fat Gap. On Thursday, July 28 Holy Ghost Tent Revival performs with The Big Picture; and Future Islands with Motor Skills perform on Thursday, August 25. Concert nights feature a beer garden along with a selection of food from some of Franklin Street's favorite restaurants. Movie nights provide entertainment for the whole family with free popcorn, crafts by Kidzu Children's Museum, trivia games, costume contests, and more! Movies include Pirates of the Caribbean, E.T., North by Northwest, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part I), Toy Story 3, and Megamind! The FREE movies start at sundown (appx. 8PM) so bring a chair or blanket, grab food to-go from a downtown restaurant, and enjoy a picnic dinner under the stars! Visit www.locally-grown.com. Sacred Arts Tour Comes to Chapel Hill
North Carolinians will be able to experience a bit of Tibetan dance and other performances by Tibetan Monks of the Drepung Gomang Monastery with a week-long series of programming. The tour begins with an opening ceremony on Sunday, May 22 at 523 E. Franklin Street. The monks will complete their sacred sand mandala over the course of five days and will hold a deconstruction ceremony on Monday, May 30. The mandala construction site will be open to the public.
